  4. Hi there

just getting things ready to return back to oz and just want to check if I currently have a Apple iPad 32g 3G unlocked will I just be able to get a SIM card plan the same as I always have done with my old phone. Or will I have to pay to egg if unlocked in oz. Any advice on iPads would be a great help!

When the missus come over to Perth she had an iPhone and iPad both locked to orange, we read that it will just work over here so just brought them.... got here put a new pay as you go Sim in from Telstra and they both worked fine and have done since....

  5. We sent a large move cube with all our personal belongings IE, Pictures, paperwork, clothes, tv and computer, tools. Italian oak desk etc.... We filled it to the brim and it arrived on time with no issues. the only thing is customs opened boxes and checked things and damaged my desk and the missus Laura Ashley light shades.... but i can say Seven seas were superb from start to finish and it arrived on time exactly as they said. the guy even helped the missus to unload it as i was at work.... The missus sent another one a small one with other items she wanted to send after i had already gone to Perth and that is due soon....

The guy from the Manchester depot brought it to our house in the UK and was superb he even helped me wrap things and load and had a few cuppas while he waited for us to get finished. ( On new years eve as well)

    Cant recommend them enough

  6. I'm with Australian super fund. I can't compare it to others, but it does have a good online service, and allows a little flexibility. It is no where near as flexible as my UK pension, but it is adequate.

I am with Australian Super.... I Got my paperwork Friday along with a card with my membership number on etc.... I have a form to fill in but it is all set up through work.... Do you know if I can transfer my uk pension to this.?....

    Thanks

  7. Hi, I've also been looking at schools in northern perth. I have a 6 year old(7 in May). I looked at a few schools and some said year 2 and another had dates born between and that put him in year 1.... So a tad confused myself as he is in yr 2 at he moment in the UK![/

yeh we got told it depends on birth dates and areas.... I think I will just go into the schools next week in the areas we want to live and ask them to get the right info.... Looks like we will have to sort the right schools out then that will determine where we will live....

  8. If you are sending a container I would say ship everything and throw what you don't need once you are there.... If you are only shipping personnel items i.e. Clothes pictures etc.... I would send a move cube.... We sent a move cube last week with seven seas and it is surprising what will fit in them.... They are very professional from start to finish....

  9. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_Australia

this is a good place to start

9 yr old yr 4 in 2014 (assuming turning 10 in Aug 2014)

12 yr old yr 7 (assuming turning 13 Sep 14)

15 yr old yr 10 (assuming turning 16 Nov 14)

The middle child may well have to spend the year in primary but I believe they are gradually moving yr 7 into secondary - 2015 I think but some schools already do it (privates). Ah the joys of moving to a foreign country, goes with the territory.

Thanks for that Quoll appreciate it....

  10. My daughter is 2. She would go to full time

school in September 2016 but in oz it would be January 2017. From what I've researched on it, it's pretty similar to uk aside from start dates with regards to term dates etc. We have found the Kindy and nursery arrangements hard to grasp! That's a lot

different to but from reception up seems pretty similar!

We checked online and it was saying 12-13 years would be year 7 primary in WA but secondary in other states which would mean our middle son going back to primary for a year which isn't good after doing a term at secondary already....

And the catchment areas for each school isn't clear....

Looks like I will have to visit a few schools when I get back to Perth next week....

  11. Hi

could someone give me a contact number that I can chase up a 190 visa application on with dialling code, I can't seem to find anything!

We had to call our case officer in the Adelaide office even though we was going to Perth.... When we lodged our visa we received an email with the details on.... If you didn't get one from them I would look on their website which has a link to check the progress of your visa application.... You will need to put your TRN number in.... It also has the numbers for the Adelaide office....

  12. Can't help with the question but wouldn't your daughter be in year 4 and your sons in years 8 and 11 in UK?

    Hello

Thanks for the reply.... I know what year they are in the UK and it is what I have put above.... I am asking what year they are going to be in when we move to Perth....

    Thanks

  14. Hi all above that used a move cube, mine is arriving on 2nd jan, and I'm wondering about declaring the things that are less than 12 months old, I've got several things, new trainers, new bedding sheets, 1 new power tool just to list a few, if I declare them which I should am I really going to have to pay taxes etc?

    Your experiences would be great

    Andy

i don't think they are too bothered about a few bits like trainers etc....

we have been told it was big items like TV sofa washing machine etc....

After err all you could put trainers in your case so how will they know....

  15. Hi all,

The wife and I are moving out to Perth and it's surrounding areas in March on a permanent residency 190 visa which I have secured through my original trade as a bricklayer.

Need to decide whether or not take my tools, gear and equipment. From what I understand, the majority of work available for newcomer brit brickie s is new build residential sites, and as such I'm thinking the only real requirement for tools should I end up working in this environment is basic hand tools, levels, profiles etc (no power tools or other building equipment).

I do have a good amount of my own gear which I have accumulated whilst working for myself in UK over the last several years as bricklayer / general builder. But am beginning to question whether it's worth the hassle/expense of shipping it over, or simply selling it before I go.

Can anyone else see the point of me bringing power tools and equipment such as stihlsaw, breakers and generators all that way, when the chances are ill most likely be working back on new builds using only my own basic hand tools, where all other equipment and plant should be supplied by employer? Or is it looked on favourably by potential employers if I already had the gear?

As always, all your posts/thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated.

Cheers and and all the best for 2014.

Tools are very expensive in Perth.... I got here 6 weeks ago and could not believe how much they cost.... I would say to anyone coming over if you are shipping goods take everything and all tools you can fit in.... You can easily fit OZ plugs to power tools when you get them here....

  16. I don't think the photo licence replaces the paper one. Once you have a photo card you still have to have the scrappy piece of paper as the photo card contains limited information. Didn't know the photo card was only valid for 10 years though. Will have to check that out.

Yes it is defo only 10 years I have just done mine before I left for Perth....

i have just changed mine to the OZ one which I just needed the photo card they never asked for the paper part.... It cost me close to $ and you have to have loads of id with you.... I took my Medicare card, visa stamp in pass port, passport, bank card from NAB, statement from NAB with address on and a letter from tax office with address on.... They are quite strict with the id and I had to do a basic eye test there at the counter.... Once sorted they take your picture and you receive it in the post a week or two later....

  17. Anyone had any experience with shipping Protein Powder (used to make protein drinks) and creatine tablets to Oz from the UK?

Is this strictly a no-go or can they be taken if unopened?

Much cheaper here in the UK then Oz..!

If i can't take them, anyone know where to buy these supplements for a decent price in Perth?

    Cheers peoples.

I took creatine and other supplements in my case when I went a few months ago.... Then I found a good place called muscle worx which are all over Perth and very reasonably priced they have a good selection and are online too.... You can get a loyalty card which gives you $10 off when you spend over $200....
