  1. I’m a child health nurse in WA and the service is currently investing and expanding their camhs service.
yes people can look up jobs in each state for specific opportunities.

The main reason UK candidates  are unsuccessful with their applications and don’t receive a reply  is because they don’t understand the format for addressing selection criteria, I speak from previous experience.

I'm a UK mental health nurse with just under 8 years experience, currently working community crisis team as band 6. I did apply for a position with WA but heard absolutely nothing back. I've just accepted a post in Queensland who seem to be the opposite and really good with communicating. Maybe this is something WA is falling back on if you're not getting or keeping candidates. Also the current belong program only seems to go up to end of June this year with nothing saying it's going to continue in the next FY. This also put me off applying for more jobs with WA so maybe be specific with what you're actually offering and that people will defintiely be eligible for it. Hopefully you'll get some good candidates and fill your posts.

    Hi RubyMonday

I'm not part of the recruiting I saw this advertised, was just posting for anyone looking for opportunities

  4. The recommendations in the Final Report aim to increase the number of health practitioners registered in Australia while ensuring that these practitioners continue to meet Australia’s stringent safety standards. The reforms are expected to save overseas health practitioners,  employers  and the community time and money and bring Australia’s regulatory system into line with comparable jurisdictions like Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

  6. Hi guys, I'm a newbie here so apologies if someone has already asked this question! I'm an adult nurse with a postgraduate diploma - in other words I did my psychology degree and then completed my nursing qualification for 2 years. There is no such thing as topping up to a BSc for me, if I were to top up I would get a masters (no bad thing but I'm not ready for more study just yet!). I suppose my question is if there are any other PGDip nurses here who have successfully passed APRAH? My application is with them now. Noone seems to know if the same rules apply to PGDips as Dip HE

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but someone on another thread has posted that they cannot meet ahpra requirements with the 2 year post grad dip

  7. I thought I would update on this thread as I have recently received some news that has scuppered my immigration plans. I applied for my skills assessment with ANMAC and within a week, I received an email from them stating that they were freezing my application for two years unless in the meantime I could prove that I had obtained registration with AHPRA. This is all because my course is one of the fast-track 2 year postgraduate diplomas. I have since spoken to four different registered migration agents and have been advised that if I apply to AHPRA now, I might as well take my money and flush it down the toilet as I will get rejected, based on the fact my qualification will be considered 'insufficient'. Apparently it doesn't matter that on paper, I satisfy ALL of the criteria.

One of the main prompts in my career change into nursing (I previously did marketing and PR) was the fact that this qualification could take me anywhere in the world (as I was told by my University). So I have completely changed my career, gone back to University for two years, done all 4,600 hours of work and now found out I won't be able to move with it. My only option is to return to University in the UK, do a degree top-up, which is about as stupid as it sounds because my current qualification is already higher than what I'd be topping up to.

So just a word of warning for anyone doing the 2 year PGDip Adult Nursing course...you won't be able to register with this qualification and as of the past few months, ANMAC will now refuse to process your skills assessment until you provide evidence of AHPRA registration.

So sorry to hear this Lizzie you must be devastated.

  8. Hi, I believe that his wife did what I have just been offered. I have just started on my BSC (hons) nursing and already have a degree. If you already have a tertiary education then you can study a graduate nursing diploma which is a 3 year course and followed all of the same curriculum as the BSc, however you are exempt from some of the pure academic modules, such as the communication ones and the dissertation as you have already shown that you can study at degree level, you do have to study at Msc level for a couple of modules as well though and you do still need to do all of the pharmacokinetics, p and p, placements etc and it is still 3 years. However it is confusing as to whether oz recognise this or not. It is officially a higher qualification that the BSc but is less than a PGdip and i dont think there is an oz equivalent!

Some of the fast track courses are 2 years as opposed to 3 years such as The one offered by University of London( for HV school nursing and district nursing) " Our graduate-entry courses allow graduates with a first degree from disciplines other than healthcare to gain a pre-registration health qualification in approximately two years as opposed to the usual three - providing a fast-track route into health"

Any course would have to meet the minimum practice hours etc as per Ahpra website, I wonder if the sticking point for these courses will be the dissertation.

The other issue to consider if ahpra is granted, is employment. Not sure where you are looking to go Daffyd, but HV's are required to also hold a midwifery qualification to do this role in some states such as Victoria. I'm in Perth, and its quite a long process here, you apply for the pool, then wait for an interview, I didn't get one until I landed in the country, then wait another 8 weeks to find out if you were successful. Then you have to wait until a post becomes available, I will commence work in November, this is form an application that I submitted at the beginning of the year, and I consider myself to have been very lucky. A lot of the HV roles advertised are rural. The benefit of having initial nursing qualification is being able to take a general nursing role until a HV post comes up. Good luck to your wife with her ahpra journey, if she is granted reg, and wants to pm me, I am happy to give her some pointers with the application (I didn't get invited for an interview with my first attempt in 2014) due to not addressing criteria) you have to give very specific examples from practice)

  9. Hi all

    Back again.

Has anyone had any experience registering with a POST GRADUATE diploma?

    I'm aware of the issue with Nursing diplomas and topping up but the AQF framework has;

My wife's qualification is a post graduate one i.e. just short of a Master's. She did this as part of her Health Visitor training.

    Cheers

    Daf

Did you wife do her 3 years nurse training then complete a PGdip Health visiting? If so she will get reg, as I have a Dip He adult nursing and completed Bsc Hons HV, and recently got Ahpra. As pointed out PG dip is higher than Bsc Hons. If she did a direct HV course without initial nurse training then I'm not sure how Ahpra would assess this.

  10. Hi,

Are there any diploma trained midwives on this thread? I'm guessing were going to have the same issues as nurses with regards to diplomas v's degree etc. but my question is regarding the element that states you have to have caseloaded 20 women from early pregnancy to 4-6 weeks post birth. I know a lot of university's include a caseloading module now, but 5 years ago when I trained it wasn't included and how am I supposed to get that experience now when the hospital I work at doesn't have a caseloading team???

    Anyone know anything??

I just completed 18 month bsc hons midwifery and only caseloaded 4 women. Even the 3 year degree students didn't caseload 20 women.

  11. Just been reading some threads on another forum from nurses within the EU who are also having their applications refused based on the same argument, this has been going on since last year. Looks as though it was only a matter of time before UK trained nurses got a turn. I think the message from Ahpra is very clear, they do not want anymore overseas nurses, and the Diploma argument is a perfect way to block a large proportion of these.

  12. Hi there!

Collette all of this has got me worried too, like yourself I am a dip he Nurse with district nursing BSC hons, currently working in sexual health and now completing my masters. I know there has been much debate over the diploma registration but I am hoping my additional quals will see me through the registration process although I'm starting to doubt that. We are looking at settling in either Adelaide or Brisbane.

I would like to think so but I'm thinking that they may only allow the RGN top up degree and as they don't seem to understand UK qualifications. I'm not sure that they will understand what our degree is!! I have emailed AHPRA to see if it is an acceptable qualification to them......

  13. Hiya Kelly, I worked in Lancs. I think the problem will be that my nursing degree isn't RGN itself its health visiting, and whilst my midwifery degree would be accepted I am unlikely to get a job as a newly qualified midwife, as Australian newly qualified midwives are struggling to get employment. Just like nursing they want experience. I would need stay in the UK and gain about 2 years midwifery experience. I'm not parting with anymore money until someone on here tells me that they managed to get registration with a health visiting degree! I was hoping to go to Perth until they put nursing on schedule 2, now you need ajob offer for 12 months, so we were heading to Melbourne

  14. I feel for you guys but the whole reason aphra have done this is due to the job situation out here for nurses. There aren't even enough jobs for the Aussie nurses newly qualified and existing nurses so adding migrant nurses to the mix would just exacerbate the problem. There are Aussie nurses out here who are equivalent of diploma whom are registered also that's life, boards can change standards as they wish that's called progression same as in uk with project 2000 you could not wipe out all nurses who were registered under the old system. I think rather than wasting time and clutching at straws why not do the top up to degree or bridging program if you are really desperate to go to

    oz?

I'm all for progress Laura George, I just spent the last 18 months training to be a midwife to gain a BSC Hons, in order to compliment the Diploma I have held for the last 14 years, in addition to the BSC HONS health visiting degree I also have held for the last ten years. I did this in order to meet the Australian requirements to register as a family child health nurse. It would now seem that my RGN qualification is worthless in Ahpras opinion, therefore probably unable to ever gain registration as intended. 14 years as a nurse with experience and qualifications in trauma care, community nursing, health visiting, sexual health/HIV counsellor, and midwifery............Bridging program? I don't think so!!!

  15. Do not wish to jeopardise the registration of fellow dip he currently in oz but surely if dip he does not meet the national law (53b) which is consistently quoted by ahpra, then how can there registration be renewed if they are now not working within the national law. I have heard that dip he nurses have had there registrations renewed whilst this fiasco has been ongoing. I feel another tweet coming on

My thoughts exactly! Your either meeting the standards or not .

  16. Totally agree, I am also RGN Dip HE (2000) and have a Health visiting degree. Just finished my midwifery degree in preparation to go on a permanent visa (this is a requirement to register and work as a family child health nurse in oz. Anmac assessment back, Ielts passed....All for nothing. Just glad I didn't part with the visa money and sell my house like some nurses on the Whats happening at Ahpra forum.

  17. Hello, anyone could tell me please which ones are the exact required documents for ANMAC registration? and a sample of professional reference for nurses? that would help me a lot! thanks

Not sure about exact docs as it doesn't seem to let you know until you submit the application form , but there is a template on Anmac website stating the exact reference required.
