  1. Yeah your right we both seem to be in the same boat I'm sure they will be fine but as a parent do we ever stop worrying

We have the opposite problem. Our 15-year old son seems to have no problem making friends despite being absolutely determined - in his contrary teenage way - to not become an Aussie but retain his "Englishness". The younger 13-year son is more laid back about things, and yet seems to find it hard to make friends with his Aussie contemporaries. We're a bit worried about him as he seems to still view Australia as a weird foreign country that he can't take seriously. However, we're in the inner west not the Hills ...
  2. Hi all we have now been living in Rouse Hill for just over 7 month and love it we have met some lovely families with younger kids but my 16 year daughter is struggling to make as she puts it "proper friends" her own age.

The girls at her school are all friendly enough but as my daughter is very quiet and shy she finds it hard to mix with them. I think the fact that my son who is 13 has made loads of friends and has a good social life are making things a bit harder for her as well.

I would love to hear from anyone who has older kids.

  3. Hi Pol I havn't been on here for a while but Im not far from you in Rouse hill and am always up for meeting for a coffee there is nothing worse than not feeling settled just give me a pm if you fancy it.

Hi all, we've been in Oz a year now (457 visa) but initially in Brisbane, where we settled very quickly (have family there). Found QLD very relaxed and people really friendly. Kids and I made lots of friends through school etc. Then hubby got a new job in Sydney, giving us another 4 yrs on the Visa, and we moved here 6 weeks ago. Living in Kellyville now and finding it very different to Brisbane (weather rubbish for a start!). Its a nice enough area but I'm not working at the moment and am really struggling to settle and make friends. I'd love to hear from anyone in the area or moving here soon. I'm 43 and mum to 7yr old twins
