  1. Hey all,

We are planning a trip over next year either in July or October. There is myself, OH and two kids aged 10 and 8 (by then). I spent a year in Oz and have always wanted to go back, I want to make longer term than a holiday but thats another story!! So 3-4 weeks, looking for some info on what not to miss. Basically I would like some ideas about where to go. Im thinking we will fly into Sydney to see the sights then hire a car and make stops along the way to Brisbane (I have family in Brisbane so will be staying there for a bit longer). We would love to see the GBR but dont want to keep dragging the kids all over the place as they are on holiday too. Has anyone any thoughts on places that are unmissable and if we should just finish off in Brisbane and see the sights within driving distance or fly up to Cairns? Would love to see Cairns and GBR but worry that it would be another flight in and out.. Anyone got any ideas??

    Thanks

  2. If you can expand on commodity and state as there are different terms in each. Here in QLD coal a deputy is generally an underground term, open cut has Site senior executive. Don't know about metalliferous. You have different classes of deputy certificate and they're right up in very, very senior management at a mine. production managers are of much lower rank and are charge of an individual production unit.

Thanks Eera, so the Deputies are the big boys then! Just starting to clutch at straws to see if oh's qualifications would match that of a mine production manager on SOL, definately not a deputy!! OH works in iron ore at the moment. thanks again

  3. Well Done you, exciting times ahead. I am studying at the moment, but will not have a job on SOL until 2016!! I was wondering whether to start on state sponsorship route then hope that he can secure a job and be able to say he has a visa.. Sponsorship offerings are few and far between. Best of luck with your new venture I hope everything goes to plan xx

  4. It's very quiet right now BHP have just laid off 10% of the work force although not in your husbands line of work. That will be distracting from hiring though.

That not very encouraging if 10% is lost in one area there would be a knock on effect. There still seems to be plenty of projects on the horizon though. fingers crossed!

  5. Hey all

Mining again! We have been busy applying for jobs for my husband. We had applied for BGC as they were offering sponsorship but we haven't heard back from them. We then applied to Rio Tinto, KCGM, Thiess and BHP. Does anyone have first hand knowledge of mining and what other companies are good to work for? OH is applying for operator jobs, he has 12 years experience as a shift supervisor within an open cut super quarry here in Scotland. Does anyone have any words of wisdom, going round in circles!

    Thanks
