  1. Hi Donna

You can work on the bridging visa if you claim hardship and fill in the form when you submit your application. I applied in person and it was approved straight away, although that was before the lengthy wait was confirmed... Once your bridging visa comes into force, you can then apply for your TFN (tax number) and go go go!!

I don't think that any immigration officer in their right mind could refuse anyone the ability to legally work for over a decade...

    Good luck :)

  2. Hi! I've not been on here for a while but thought I would see how things are going (good and bad it seems!!)

    My stats....

    Date applied: 23/11/09 - onshore

    - Date on queue: 31/6/2010

    - CO assigned: feb/10

    - Visa granted: not yet.....

    - Period: 2.5 years & counting

My CO wrote to me a year ago and advised she was being reassigned from the division in ACT and I should communicate with a generic email account in Perth... I haven't heard a bean since...

But living happy & working hard in Sydney and that's all that counts I guess...

  3. Dear all,

My LRR offshore 115 was submited in April 2011 so the waiting time is extremely long.

What if I apply for Student Visa now, then LRR Onshore? Can it be imposed No Further Stay condition as DIAC has realized that I am waiting for 115?

Or apply Student Visa --> Skilled-Graduate visa (even Student visa with No further stay still eligible - I heard that????)

What do you guys think? And have you known anyone who sucessfully switched from LRR Offshore to Onshore?

    Many thanks.

OMG, I just read through some other forums, and they said that LRR Onshore 835 --> Need to keep a Bridging visa for 10yrs, and even though I can stay in Aus with my family, I am NOT ALLOWED TO WORK during those 10 yrs waiting???

    Hi Day09

You can work.. read back through this thread & posts will tell you. I am here on this visa and all I had to do was fill in a 'hardship' form when I applied for the Bridging Visa. Was easy :)

  4. Thanks for the update Daniel... This is very sad news :(

I am an on-shore applicant therefore am in a lucky position however I am wondering about the technicalities of being LRR in 10 years time.... it seems to be a long time!!! If I was to meet a nice Aussie bloke (I am holding out hope that there might be one out there somewhere...!!!) and settle down, am I still eligible for this visa?

    Thanks

    Cx

  5. Hey everyone...

I can't offer any good news as I haven't heard anything yet...

I just want to say to everyone 'HANG IN THERE...' Yes, it's very frustrating and yes, it feels as though life has to be put on hold but at least we have started the process. They haven't said no to us, and as long as we toe the line and behave and stay within the limitations of this visa we will be fine.

LRR is the visa that has the lowest priority within the Other Family category, and as such, we just have to be patient.

Hopefully some good news is just around the corner...

    Keep smiling :)

  6. Hi Daniel, have you applied onshore or offshore?

I finished everything on 17-May-2011 offshore, and haven’t been appointed a CO yet.

In your opinion, is it possible for me to contact DIAC via phone or email about my queue date now (i.e. after only 40 days), OR should I wait for a few weeks, then contact them?

Thanks a lot, and any suggestions from any one would be highly appreciated.

    Hi day09

You can certainly try contacting them, however I wouldn't get your hopes up... 40 days is nothing in the scheme of things and I don't know if you will get any information out of them that will help you.

Once it started looking like I wouldn't be processed any time soon, my CO went very quiet and then only ever gave me scripted responses to most of my questions. I'm on-shore and should have my visa by January 2013...

Grab yourself somewhere comfy, relax and let the slow-train take you the long way round!

Sorry - but thats the best I can offer you...

  7. Hey everyone

I finally got an email from my CO (5 weeks after I sent one to her). There has been no progress for me and my queue date is 30/6/10 although I am unsure how this date was reached as I had everything in way before then... I have also been advised that my CO is moving on and I will need to direct any future queries to a central email in Perth ( I was being looked after in Canberra).. Far out!!!!

Anyway... It seems as though I am still in it for the long haul - as is everyone else...

There is an emphasis in the letter that seems to say that I will only be processed further down the line if I am still eligible for this visa when they look at it again (6, 10, 20 years down the line???) I am guessing that means having no significant other or kids before I get PR or I will have wasted time & funds...

The joys of life in limbo eh!!!

  8. Hi all

Just another quick update from me :)

I received my replacement interim medicare card last week. Medicare cards last for 12 months and come into effect on the same day as your Bridging Visa so I received mine a month early, but at least I don't need to produce the rammel of paperwork and head into an office to reapply for one!

It is also good to know that someone somewhere knows that I am waiting!!!

  9. Hey Nina

My application was lodged in November 2009 and I am still waiting.

Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing how long it will take...

    Hello George

Thank you to you and All the such useful information re last remaining relatives topic.

May I ask that for the application which was lodged late 2009, how long would it take for the application to be processed please?

    Thank you

    Nina

  10. Hi

Sorry for the delay in replying - Christmas and things took over for a wee while!!

I came here on an ETA and applied on-shore for the 835 LRR visa a week later. I applied for working rights at the same time and was asked to complete a hardship form. On this, I explained that I was in the country with virtually no money or assets and that whilst I was planning on residing with my parents and that they were fully understanding in having to support me, I didn't want them to. I wrote on the form that they are 'self-funded retirees (which is the phrase they like as it clarifies that Oz isn't giving them any money!).

I was able to start work once the 3 month tourist visa stamp had expired and my Bridging Visa started.

One note of caution for this is that your son should keep all copies of all paperwork and record the name of the person who sorts out his Bridging Visa. Once I was allocated my CO, I had to prove that I had been given working rights (right hand/left hand!!). I was able to do this quickly as I had requested a passport label (which they don't give out as a matter of course).

I had posted out paperwork prior to me flying as I was worried about getting stopped at customs and trying to prove that I was only on holiday whilst having a suitcase full of my life and discs with my cv on.... I wasn't stopped but I certainly felt more comfortable knowing that my health records, banking paperwork and work references were here waiting for me...

I didn't front-load my medical or police checks due to immi being able to date these and then somehow prove that I had entered the country under false pretences...

I have had my application in since November 2009 and am still waiting, but at least I am here and working and getting on with my life....

Let me know if you need any further help and I will do my best. It's not an easy process emotionally or physically, but it can be done :)

    Hi,

I have looked into this and yes you can go out on an e-visitor visa then apply for the visa onshore. The LRR onshore visa does NOT allow you to work but once you are there I believe that you can ask the migration office to consider allowing you to work on the basis of "hardship" etc. They do not have to grant this i.e it is at their discretion so no guarantees.

But this could be an option for your Son, especially if you could help support him a little.

I would have taken this route however I have a very good job here in the UK so dont want to give that up just yet and my parents live in a one bedroom flat so I would need to earn money just to rent.

Sleepywombat will be able to provide more information but this is my understanding.

  11. Hi All

A quick update from me :)

My LRR visa application has been in since November 2009. I contacted my case officer last week to ask for an update on the visa and to ask for advise on getting travel rights as I have a new job and I may need to travel to our offices in NZ at short notice...

    The response wasn't hugely positive...

"Your application is still being processed though I cannot advise of when it

    will be finalised.

Re your query on Bridging visa B, it is possible to apply for such visa

which is valid for one year instead of just for few months. Please ensure

to provide any relevant information in the application form (Form 1006)

when you apply for Bridging visa B."

I may be reading a little too much between the lines but I am thinking that this means I could be in for another 12 month wait!

I'll keep you all updated if I hear anything else...
