  1. It's really annoying that they are stopping selling some tickets before completing the rollout. I use the ferry (on Opal) to get into work and the bus (not on Opal yet) to get home, they are stopping my ferry tens in a couple of weeks so I'll have to pay full single fare every morning and won't get any of the supposed benefits.

Opal also also isn't very good for those using multiple transport methods on their commute and you have to pay for each of the journeys but only one of them will count towards your 8 journeys and it's free for the rest of the week allowance.

To to the OP given the current position of the rollout I'd stick to buying my multis as it will be cheaper than opal and can be used on all public transport.

  2. Why is it than when someone says specifically they want a 4 or 5 burner, trolley type, made of stainless Steel, and ask for a recommendation, they get told a weber q ?

    Very annoying for the OP.

The OPs request is is exactly what I wanted, having had a non-stainless BBQs Galore one for only 4 years which died to the extent the OH thought it rude to even freecycle I could get a stainless one that wouldn't last for $1k++++ (or a quality one for $3k+) or a weber that wasn't as pretty for $800 I went for the weber. Whilst I still think it's bl00dy ugly I'd recommend a weber every time

  3. Lots of dog friendly pubs in Balmain, the London allows them inside and on the balcony, the Bald Rock has a huge beer garden including a covered area they are allowed in, the Dry Dock lets them in the TAB bar, the William Wallace is also dog friendly although a rougher pub. Dicks also allows dogs in the smoking areas and the Monkey bar on their outside seats

  4. I'd go weber. I really wanted a stainless steel one but for anything even half decent they were really pricey. We have the q305 at around $750 -$800 with stand and it cooks everything very we'll coping with dinner for just the two of us and parties with 10+ people

  5. Given our 'age brackets' why are we paying mega bucks for visas when the 804 is a pittance. I've read some info on it and it looks cosher but I have to be missing something :swoon:

    Phoebe

The problem with the 804 is that being non-contributory it has the long waiting list of 10 to 15+ years. If you don't want to wait that long for the visa then as a parent the mega bucks visa's are the only options.

  6. Oh I see, yes. As others were saying it was currently cheaper to pay to London I thought that's what you were trying to do. I don't know about emailing the form as we paid in London for the 173 visa and sent a bank cheque by post in Australia when we upgraded to the 143. Bit of a pain I know. You could try emailing the case officer to ask first.

For the large 2nd VAC it appears the rate isn't quite so good, I've tried mailing the CO but to date haven't has a response :(

  7. You need to download the payment mandate from the Australian High Commission website:

http://www.uk.embassy.gov.au/lhlh/fees.html - have a look at the instructions on how to pay.

We paid with a bank cheque as our credit card company wanted to charge us commission.

We sent the cheque, the payment mandate, a copy of the letter from our CO asking for payment, and a covering letter. We got two special delivery ‘silver pouches’ from the post office and self addressed one, and paid the return postage (we made a note of the number). We then included the self addressed one in the envelope for them to return the receipt to us. We then sent the receipt to our CO. We were able to check when the envelope had been posted back to us. The whole process only took about 4 days.

    Hi Linday

I'm in Australia so would be paying in dollars (we'll probably leave Mum's money in the UK until she's sold her house) and sending the form to the CO directly. For me its a lot easier to email the form than to take a long lunch to queue in the post office for an express post envelope hence my question.

  8. Hi All

Mum now has the request for her 2nd VAC to be paid. Looking at the calculator it appears i'm better off paying it here than she is in London as the rate isn't so good for higher amounts. In the email from her CO Mum has the form to pay be credit crd, my question is can I complete the form, scan it then email it or do I have to send the form via snail mail?
