Generally speaking, if you have previously held a permanent visa, then it is worth considering an RRV as a first option. Success will obviously depend on the strength of the substantial ties and, if necessary, the compelling reasons for an extended absence. A Registered Migration Agent will be able to provide greater detail once they know the specific circumstances of your situation. I don't believe that a lawyer would be necessary in this instance.

Can I ask if it is only worth applying for a 155 visa if you plan to return on a permanent basis at that time? I am returning for a holiday next month but plan to return permanently in the next few years - will a tourist visa jeopardise this at all?

  2. I don't know anything about Ironside but I know students and teachers and Indro HS and I would recommend it. It is one of the best schools I have come across in Brisbane - when I looked around I felt it had the most European feel to it, particularly because there is no uniform. It does run the IBDP but only a very small number of students take it there. Other schools close by that run the IBDP include John Pauls, St Peters and the Queensland Academies (QA are state schools, the others are private).

As a state school Indooroopilly will only have a small number of international students and the rest will be 'Australian' - but the 'Australian' students often have international backgrounds.

PM me if you want more information.

  3. I think it sounds more than enough!!! Tax returns to their address and a statement from your mother in law. Don't be daunted by the process, you sound like you have a good application. I was on this thread back in April when I was applying - we had been together 6.5 years and I had to have a phone interview because my application was apparently boderline. Loads of people came and went with their visa's and I didn't get mine till August!! (Am in brisbane now). They just need to account for all the time and that 3 months probably looked like a grey area.

    Best of luck

  4. Great news, got visa yesterday! 15 weeks exactly from when payment taken, CO apologised for delay. No idea what took so long. When I applied in April we were planning to leave beginning of September, I handed in my notice in May because that is the deadline for teachers - bit of a gamble. Then in mid June my mother was re-diagnosed with breast cancer after 22yrs in remission, we cancelled all our plans straight away. It was so stressful seeing my mum go through it again and at the back of my mind I knew I was going to be unemployed in a few months. Two weeks ago my mother got all her results back following her mastectomy and they were great - it hasn't spread, they have removed all affected cells and she doesn't require radiotherapy or chemo! Unbelievable relief - still hasn't sunken in! Anyway my mum really wants us to go to Oz and we have started making plans again - thing is my head is all over the place and I feel...actually I have no idea how I feel.

Anyway sorry to off-load all this, just don't really have anyone I want to talk to here.

Good luck to the rest of you!

  5. I am feeling completely miserable!!! I lodged my application on the 20th april, front loaded + form 80 as cherry on top! Asked for extra bits and pieces, sent immediately. Had phone interview beginning of May and told nothing else needed. People are coming and going all around me...........my CO is probably on some Contiki tour around Greece and I'm sat unemployed and ready to go!!! Sorry to be a downer when you are all celebrating :-((

  6. We submitted 19th of April. Looks like we are all about the same time. I had a phone interview on the 22nd of May and was told by CO that they were happy with application and just needed to sort the paperwork. My CO said they had a big backlog and mine would prob take till mid june....the waiting is awful. I haven't booked flights yet but am thinking about it because there are some good prices at the min.

    Will let you all know.

  7. Hi, here's my application story...

sent 309: 17th April (front loaded with meds and police checks)

Received and payment taken: 20th April

CO contact: 23th April requesting more evidence

    Further evidence sent: 27th April

CO requested further evidence: 29th April

    Further evidence sent: 9th May

CO contact stating enough evidence and requesting phone interview: 13th May

Phone interview arranged for: 18th May

Anyone else had a phone interview? What kind of questions did they ask?
