  1. We are living in Pac Pines, been here 8 months but we feel we are missing out on the 'aussie' lifestyle so are now looking at Varsity, Robina and Mermaid for another rental. Its just too much of a trek from here to everywhere:(

  2. If anyone is interested our house will be available in a few weeks time, dates are flexible.......4 bed large villa style house with pool in Carter Street, Pacific Pines rent is $560 a week, in a quiet cul de sac, is walking distance to shopping centre, macdonalds, zaraffas, noodle bar, primary and high school etc etc.

If anyone is interested PM us for more details.

as title says we are moving from Adelaide to Gold Coast in mid January after being here 2.5 years.

Althought I'm looking forward to the move I'm really apprehensive about starting AGAIN - having to find new schools and friends etc.

i think we are going be In the southern suburbs and would REALLY appreciate advice on schools in anyone has any. I really like the look of Mudgeeraba primary - if anyone has anything negative to say about it I would be really interested to hear. It's really important n for me that I find the right chill first time as my daughter will be going into year 3 and this will be her 4th primary school!!!

if anyone else is moving into the area - would love to hear from you.

We are in our late 30's with two girls aged 6 and 8. Husbands job is in Arundel.

    hope to hear from people.

    Cheers & merry Christmas :xmas20:

ps - sorry for all typos I'm using new ipad and just can't get used to it lol

    Hi Michelle,

Are you the same Michelle i spoke to in adelaide from Noarlunga? We moved from Morphett Vale to Gold Coast in October, have moved to Pacific Pines, we loved Robina and looked at a few houses there and in Mudgeeraba too but settled on Pac pines, we liked the idea of it being more like the uk, its like a little town of its own, with shopping centre and a good tavern opposite a huge park with a lake, great playgrounds for the kids, its all very pretty and clean, has 3 or 4 primarys, high school and nice houses that are good value. Our daughter Tegan (11) has settled in really quickly to her new school which I was worried as she had moved school twice in SA as we were living in Seaview Downs and then bought in MV.

Arundel is about 5 to 10 mins drive from here. Harbourtown here is bigger than Adelaides lol just a bit of shopping info there. Theres a Westfield 5 mins from Pacific Pines or you have the huge Robina shopping centre 5 mins from Mudgeeraba.

If you fancy meeting up when you arrive we would be happy to, fire away with an anymore questions you want answering.

ps i looked into schools in Mudgeeraba and theyre all really good primarys but there is no High School (only private), it would be Robina or Palm Beach I think

  4. We may be breaking our lease in Pacific Pines, Its a lovely 4 bed large home with a salt water inground pool, in a quiet cul de sac, the house is in the catchment for Pacific Pines Primary/High School, walking distance to shopping centre and tavern. Rent is $560 pw.

Thought we would ask on here before we make it official to see if anyone is looking for a property like this, PM us if you would like any further details.

  5. why molendinar particularly, i've driven through a few times and it seems ok but plenty of other places to look which may be better placed for the coast and/or things to do?

a nice house came up there, but we didnt get it anyway, think they wanted hubby already working which is impossble with being in adelaide still and even with a letter from prospective employer it was a no. Oh well its obviously wasnt meant to be. We now are going back to plan a and staying in a hotel for 2 weeks and will be viewing heaps in 2 weeks time lol

  6. Hi, do you remember we 'chatted' few months ago when I asked if anyone moving to gold coast this year? well we're finally here! arrived last week, lovely timing as autumn creeping in in the UK and weather here is lovely. have you moved over yet? have heard that Pacific Pines has lots of Brits living there, we want somewhere on the main train line to Brisbane and not sure if that area is. we're considering robina or helensvale but not made decision yet. to be honest everywhere so far looks lovely. we're currently staying for a few weeks in Ashmore (ashmore holiday village). this is in a good location to do reccies and nice place to stay when you have kids. keep me posted on your move!

  7. Our daughter was 16 when we began the visa process but when we finally lodged she was 18 and 19 when it was granted in Feb 2011. She was in full time education at 16 but then went to work as didnt want to come to Oz, she then split with her boyfriend and decided she wanted to come so we said you need to get to college (she was 18 now), she was not at college for the whole year and we thought this may cause a problem when our case officer picked up our case but thankfully it was granted no probs. She really didnt want to go to college as wanted to earn but ended u doing a course she really enjoyed and worked part time in 2 shops, to help her cope with all this and because I couldnt have moved without her she paid no housekeeping, we said keep your money and we helped her out financially so she stayed in full time ed. Hope this helps and good luck

  8. Hi all,

I would like to pick some brains.... I posted on here at the beginning of the year because after being in Perth for almost a year, I was feeling homesick. I'd just had a baby and adding those crazy post natal hormones into the mix just made the thought of staying in Australia unbearable. I had some fantastic advice from other people on here and have put some of the advice into action, as a result I am now more optimistic about our future in Australia. However, I've a sneaking suspicion some of the feelings of isolation I have been feeling are because we are based in Perth. I am north of the river in a well populated area and have made a real effort to get out there and make friends, joins mothers groups and so on. I still feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall though as I don't feel I'm growing a social circle at all. I'm a friendly person and without sounding pompous I don't think it's me???! I've also noticed too that there are alot of Brits here which in itself is great but on the other hand causes me great unease because a lot of those I've 'connected' with are on the move back to the UK!!! When me and my partner applied for our visa'a our first choice was Adelaide (lifestyle, lovely place, cheaper housing, less populated than other cities, nice climate etc) but because my partner had some friends who'd moved out to Perth six months before us - we agreed to start there. The job opportunities for him were better as well so it made sense. Ironically his friends went back to the UK for good after we'd been here six months as they didn't like it.

We are now considering a move to Adelaide to see if I will feel more 'settled' there. My partner works in IT and although he likes his job and likes it here in Perth he would rather try Adelaide than go back to the UK.... I'd be interested to hear others opinions on Adelaide as a city to live in. Is there more going on there than in Perth? Are the suburbs well appointed in terms of shops and parks etc?

I'm not slating Perth, it's a beautiful place and has lots going for it, I'm just not sure that it's the place for me.

    Zephyr

    Hi Zephyr,

In our personal opinion we have found the houses in Adelaide are not cheap at all, unless you want to live by a beach down south without much around or in a not so desirable suburb or up North then they are expensive. We have bought and even though there are 2 little shoppin centre closeby we have to do a longish taxi ride to go anywhere decent for a night out. We are moving to Queensland, to the Gold Coast, we feel it offers everything we havent found here. We find it very quite and here and yes there are festivals in the city, wineries etc but thats not enough for us, we dont like it too laid back lol

  9. Hi all, has anyone sold their house out here in Oz and not used an estate agent?? Theres a few sites on the net whereby it gets advertised on realestate.com.au, you get a for sale board etc but no hideous commission to pay. Seems a bit daunting so hoping someone on here has done it, maybe??

  10. Just read e mail back from Queensland re electrical licence, how you apply etc etc. Does anyone know once passed the Vetassess can one apply from UK or do we have to wait till in Oz? Also i understand there is a 2nd part after this, Do any Sparks out there know how long this whole process takes?? I am the wife and probably over reacting but to me looks like will take forever and what does hubby do for work in meantime??!! As they said cannot work in this field till have the licence. Or is it a case that one applies for licence, gets it then works whilst doing the next required phase??

Feel like dreams are plumetting as so many hurdles!!
