  1. Hi All, I am looking for a new job and have spent the last few weeks applying for jobs I am suitable for but getting no interviews. I think my CV is 'too British' and not suitable for the Australian job market so want to re write it. From looking online there are a number of companies that can re do it for approximately $95. Has anyone used a service like this? Can you recommend anyone? I would be grateful for any advice! Thanks, Louise
  2. I thought I would share positive news that I have been working for a week and my boyfriend got offered a job today with Australia Post. Both are short term contracts but are bringing the money in so are fine for now! We have also brought a little car to get us around. Next big job is to find somewhere to live long term!!
  3. Maybe I am wrong about withdrawal (seem to remember my agent saying it) but I defiantly signed a document to say I would stay in ACT for 2 years, I think one should be very careful about moving to another state without written permission if they have state sponsorship. As with all things on this forum, it's always worth checking with a professional migrant agent as everything is hearsay.
  4. As Quoll says, it depends on your occupation but we are finding it difficult too. We were told by our visa agent that we have a moral obligation to live and work in the state for 2 years on a 190 state sponsored. If no work, can't make friends, can't settle etc I believe you can ask to move to another state, without permission doing so breaks visa conditions so technically the whole visa can be withdrawn. In Canberra there seems to be a high attitude of Australian jobs for Australian people!?
  5. Thanks for the advice. I spoke to one un named major gallery HR and she rudely told me there is no way they would waiver the citizen requirement unless there was literally no other Australian person who could do the job! I will continue to apply as I know I have the experience and could do the job very well. That's why it's frustrating, an art gallery is hardly top national security, plus in the visa application I gave life evidence plus a police check!! I had a interview last week for a retail job so fingers crossed I will get it, only Christmas temp but will bring some money in. This forum is cheering me up! As all you other immigrants know, it's difficult when finding work is hard, adding to the equation no friends, little money, new area etc. Everything will be ok, the sun is shining, we are heathy and we have each other: Repeat, repeat, repeat
  6. Thanks Sunniecat but they require Australian citizenship too! :err:
  7. I 100% agree with Maggie, we have been here 4 weeks and finding the same thing. We appreciate it takes time but very difficult as everything is so expensive with no wage. My background is in the arts, so many amazing galleries in Canberra, seen at least 3 jobs that I have all the experience for but not Aussie citizen so won't pass security. My boyfriend is a water engineer, servicing pumps, but few water jobs here, even though we were told there would be. I'm doing everything possible to stay positive as we will make this adventure work!!
  8. Hi all, I have just joined this site today! My visa progress: Did IELTS exam in Southampton in March (Got overall level 9) Vetassess submitted 1st September, got a positive on 26th October (Events and Conference Organiser) Now gathering evidence for De-facto relationship and statements to apply for state sponsorship for Canberra. I was hoping for help on the settlement statement! I am struggling to write more half a page and don't know what to include. I have searched on-line but can not find any examples. The other statements seem straight forward enough as they are factual but this one is much harder. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Louise
