ian and laura
We have at last had our 175 visa granted and going over to activate it and have a look around different areas of melboune for when we move later this year. How do we activate it? do we need any paperwork or will it be just on our passports? thanks ian

esthapan
Hi, you just land anywhere in Australia with ur visas and passports, on arrival at airport, emigration people will scan your passport and upload the information into their system and stamp on the passport as 'emigration arrived'-your visa is activated. no hassles no hurdles.do you have a visa sticker on ur passport? it would be better if u get it done or else take the visa grant letter along with u. no other document is required. mellymop
You have one year to activate the 175 visa and then it lasts for five years so you can return anytime in those five years.

Did he visit perth and return to the UK with no timeframe for having to return?

Ken
You have one year to activate the 175 visa and then it lasts for five years so you can return anytime in those five years. Important to note that the 5 years runs from when the visa was issued, not from when it was activated. The right to remain in Australia is permanent but you can only enter Australia for 5 years (after that you need another visa e.g. a resident return visa or citizenship). littlegreenman
Thanks guys we havnt got stickers on our passports but have printed off the granted visa comformation letter and will take that A word of advise: there are many stories on here of people not having obtained the label and then getting a lot of grief when applying for driver licences and medicare cards. WA is notorious for this. It isn't much of a problem to get a label from your local DIAC office here in OZ BUT it will cost you ($60 per label I think) while if you obtain it while still abroad it still is for free. I strongly advise you to get the label in your passport before you leave to save yourself hassle and frustration later on.
