Guest Wanna b warm Posted February 18, 2012 Hi Katerina my husband and I + 3 kids are going to the Gladstone area too.. Haven't got to the container stage yet but to know what to pack would be good.. Lol. Are u taking much? My OH wants to just take his tools and some of the kids toys and that's it! I'm not sure myself.. You don't know what you'd miss til you haven't got it?!? Which area are you looking to go too? We can't be too far from Gladstone..
calNgary 9,134 Posted February 18, 2012 I tend to go with Jeans and t- shirt adding a thin fleece jumper in the evening. You wont really need any heavy duty warm stuff as its not freezing just nippy. Guest Guest31881 Posted February 18, 2012 The first year you arrive you will wonder why you packed winter clothes, 12 months later you will be glad you did, I would agree with cal light jumper should be fine. Probably use them in the evenings more. I arrived in June and was walking around in T shirt and shorts while everyone else said it was cold, 12 months later the temperature drops below 20 and i was complaining its gone chilly.. Eera 337 Posted February 19, 2012 Even in the tropics it gets cold, but for about 2 weeks. You will really feel it after your first winter; I remember sitting in a school yard too cold to move and it was about 15C. Bring all your winter stuff; you can always give it to charity if you really don't think you'll need it but it's cheaper than having to re-buy everything. insta #tabradders Fine art landscape and portrait photography. fairystar32 496 Posted February 19, 2012 We wear jeans and t shirt. Sometimes the mornings and evenings are really cool and then it warms up, so you switch between jeans and shorts. I also wear a jumper sometimes as some days/nights are cold. I have never wore a coat or hats/gloves/scarves (which they sell in the local shops in Winter and I think its crazy!!!) But sometimes a jacket is needed, expecially for evening walks or morning drop ofs.
calNgary 9,134 Posted February 19, 2012 LOL, The first time i wore a hat and gloves was camping at Stradbroke Island last year, it was freezing,,lol Cal x If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. Bamboozled 23 Posted February 19, 2012 I have to wear layers in the winter time because the mornings can get down to about 3 or 5* which is chilly by anyones standards! But then the temp rises towards midday and can go anywhere in the range of about 15* to mid 20s which is too warm for winter coats and then it gets cold again at night, coupled with the fact that mist houses here seem to be based on the same designs as a beach house, you do feel it for sure! I chucked out all my winter gear thinking it would be too warm to need it here but I deffo wish I had bright some because clothes are more expensive here. But I love the fact that for a little while I can wear boots!!
vixxy666 81 Posted February 19, 2012 that's good I quite like getting wrapped up from time to time so it'll be a nice change. Hi wannabwarm, my husband's job is in Gladstone, we are planning to live in Tannum sands, we have 2 boys(1&3). we are bringing everything- all furniture, fridge, tools, beds ...I calculate it that it would cost around $40000 to replace our stuff(for the same quality) so we are getting 20ft container for €5000 door to door, cheaper that way for us.what stage of the process are you at? roger2shirts 112 Posted February 20, 2012 Depends where you. In the hinterland it gets damn cold and damp. In Buderim it is usually pleasant but the nights and early mornings you need a fleece. Cairns etc - don't need anything! roger2shirts http://www.buderimosteopath.com.au

Mate, had a giggle at that last line...Lived in Kununurra for 7 years and in winter when we went to the open-air pictures, we would invariably wrap up in trackies, sloppy joe, or pullover, jacket, ugg boots and 2 blankets as we sat in the deckchairs. The 'rubbernecks' would be in t shirt, shorts and thongs and the night time temps would get down to 20 C. Cheers, Bobj.

Hi WAnnabwarm, Congratulations on the contract :-) hopefully it will be smooth process and you will be there in no time! We applied for our permanent residency in September and we are still waiting, but should have CO this week so fingers crossed:-) The quotes were from Careline and AMC removals, if you go to the shipping forum and find thread " reputable shipping companies from Ireland " few of us shared opinions and prices about Irish removal companies my boys are only 1&3 so I am not really looking into schools yet, how old are your kids?are you from Dublin? BuddysMum 733 Posted February 24, 2012 I agree with all of the above! Our first winter, I was sneering at the fleecy dressing gowns in the shops. Last winter I was looking for one to buy. I was freezing (about 15C)!!! Oddly enough, it's not north/south that makes a difference with the temperatures so much as moving inland. Just 20Km inland from here and you can get frosts overnight! All well and good, but no double glazing or central heating here! I do love wearing shorts and t shirts every day (and the sun screen and sunglasses!) Funny story: My friend is a primary school teacher and at the start of term she was putting her sticky label words around the room: "table", "chair", "door" etc and ended up with a few left over. The kids were very interested in the one that said "heater" and had NO idea what one was! We do have wood burning stoves in some homes though, and reverse cycle air con. btw, we haven't used out wellies once. We don't seem to get much mud. And if you do, because there's more rain in summer than winter you wade through in your thongs and wash your feet after! jt95045AAAA 10 Posted March 4, 2012 Hi Katerina First winter here we were still swimming in the sea everyday!! Not the second year! In winter I'm normally still in shorts with a thin fleece/jacket if it's chilly. It can get chilly on an evening and you need the reverse cycle air con on heat:)
