Isnt this site supposed to help people??? not to critise...

Congratulations Murky on your achievement, like you we will be counting the pennies when we come over simply because we dont want to dip into our savings. we will hopefully be there late summer (UK) we originally wanted to go next year after our eldest had finished his GCSEs and saved some money, but decided we could be here forever because we will never really how much is enough... the exchange rate may go even lower if we put it off for a year...you just dont know what is around the corner and were not prepared to sit and wonder...

And likely to go up as well so thats positive. criticised no my opinion yes.

Good luck to you & if saying the same thing over & over again (living the dream) it might come true.

Hi, My cousin and her partner and 2 kids arrived here to Perth in September, they came with a total of $6,000, they bought a cheap car for $1,200 which is going great, they came to no jobs, her partner was working within 2 weeks, she is still at home and he is now Permanent in his job, they have managed pretty well I have to say, but they are as happy as a pig in sh*t, it can be done for alot less than what people think you just have to be willing to watch what you spend.

Oh forgot to say they have 2 children

Cheers Laney

oh god i cant believe i have started people arguing on here, sorry about that! i just wanted to know from people that have done the move what they took with them, we will be taking 15k anyway but we wont be going unless my fella has a job to walk into i dont want to risk us not finding work so that money should be fine if we are carefull with it?

Kirk & Co - you need to read this correctly " i just wanted to know from people that have done the move what they took with them," that counts you out Mr or Mrs Negative!

I havnt completed the move yet but have spoken to and personally know many that have - friends of mine have moved with £10,000 went straight into a job in Melbourne, - £20,000 went straight into a job in Brisbane and £5,000 no job but seem to have settled just as well if not better than the other 2.. just go for it!

Everyone's situation is different. It all depends how quickly you get a job as to how much you can get by on initially.

Everyone should do their own sums as everyone has different expectations and requirements.

Once someone has the facts with regard to how much they need to rent somewhere, feed themselves, get themselves around , and pay the bills, then they can see how long the money they have will last without any income. They can then weigh that up against how quickly they think they will get a job, depending on their skills.

As I said, everyone is different, one persons skills might mean they get a job in the first week, others may mean it takes several months. This needs to be taken into account.

Then they can make an informed decision as to whether it will work for them, and even if it looks like it may not, at least they can decide if it's chance they are willing to take.
