Guest marchatfield
I spent a good 2 days cleaning up my tools so I could bring them over here in my hold baggage and customs didn't even check my bags!!! I have a right mind to back and complain and demand someone checks them properly!!!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
RockDr
Did they go through the scanners? The scanners pick up organic material, so they'll only physically open the bags if something shows up...
paisleylass
They didn't check our food items either, even though I declared them but didn't specify what. Weird! I was expecting customs to be like the Border Security TV show (all new episode on Channel 7 this weekend, can't wait!) - swizz!
Guest marchatfield
Nope, nothing not even scanner or X-ray. I declared them and a few bits, an Ipad, bag of sweets and phone just in case but just got asked a few questions like "where are you goin from here" "what's your job". Then " thanks sir of you trot! Guest marchatfield
Maybe they could smell the jeyes a mile off Quite possibly, the smell was still lingering at home about 2 weeks later!
Skani
Nope, nothing not even scanner or X-ray. They scan them out the back before they get to the luggage carousel. Obviously didn't pick up any organic material - saw you had done a really thorough job!

Guest marchatfield
I'm not so sure about the honest face- tired and bored of flying face more like it!! But I did go overboard with the cleaning as I didn't want to chuck them away when I got here!
Dan dontknow
Hi what sort of tools did you take in the luggage, also what sort of weight did they take up Cheers Dan
Guest marchatfield
i took spanners sockets and screwdrivers all in all about 15kg but could have done with loads more!!
JoandJon
I'm very impressed that they didn't look, but also know what you mean. We spent ages cleaning all our stuff, and hubby spent hours and hours on his fishing gear alone - they'd checked the bag marked 'shoes' but didn't even sniff at the fishing gear!!!! Glad you got through ok, and welcome to Oz
Guest marchatfield
Thanks and just glad they got through I was expecting an interaction like on the telly but nothing! No cameras there either- maybe that's why???
JoandJon
Nah, they're just as strict regardless of the cameras They probably just smelt the Jeyes and from the initial scan (before the carousel) you were all good. Besides, tools are pretty safe, most of them won't have been shoved into mud and dirt and that's what they're really looking for !
fourcorners
We brought about 2 tons of tools with us and didn't clean them. Most were pretty clean but in amongst it all was a box of nuts and bolts covered in grease. They opened two of our boxes, out of about 190, random ones which wouldn't have posed any danger anyway! Didn't check the tools, footwear, horse riding gear, camping gear, fishing gear, outdoor furniture, gardening equipment or caving gear!
Freesia
Thanks and just glad they got through I was expecting an interaction like on the telly but nothing! No cameras there either- maybe that's why??? we got the whole kaboodle & were only going for a family visit!! they opened luggage of all 3 of us- searched everything- full pat-downs even on my son & all because I'd left some cartons of juice in my hand luggage & my son had a bundle of earphone/DS wires in his bag ("we don't lke wires madam" ) lol- we must have looked like a real threat !! we made it to the plane just in time- I think their supervisor had turned up just as we were going through..... funny in hindsight but they were so over the top it certainly wasn't at the time !!
