[i laughed at zircon ;)

If that's all their worth in the UK, I'm packing my bags. Happy to pay you GBP29K myself to take it off your hands if you do the paperwork to get it over haha

$110K is around the right Aussie value, so yes you will have some LCT, but even allowing for that you'll be MILES in front.]

ok. So my hubby has done the maths and does not agree. If you can convince him, then we might use your services and take the M5.

How do we get in touch with you to coninue discussions....

Have a look at my post:

http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/transport-shipping/97053-transporting-your-car-oz-everything-you-need-know-75.html#post1345744

I brought in my M5 which was a slightly older model so the value fell under the luxury car tax (the independent valuation, not the redbook market value). The LCT of 33% is only applied to the amount above the threshold (threshold is ~$57k) so even with that on top, it should still be worthwhile.

Hi IronChef,

First of all, great work in the forums about this all, must require a lot of effort!! I have an e457 visa, hoping to move in April. For the test to see if importing my car is worthwhile:

2004 BMW 330d with aircon,

120,000miles

UK Value: £5,000

OZ Value: can't seem to find it on redbook

Also, speaking to various shipping companies, one mentioned that it maybe possible to import a car that you've owned for less than 12mths (as long as the car is older than 12mths) - you have to sign/pay for a bond that guarantees that you won't sell the car in Oz and take it back with you when you return to the UK. Is this true/possible??

Thanks!!

Hi Iron Chef, did you get my PM? Looking forward to your reply. Thanks

Got it! You should have a reply there :)

Hi Iron Chef

Just got our visas and starting to look into taking a pair of MX-5's over

1993 Eunos Roadster 47,845m/77,000km aircon with a limited edition interior

UK value £2300

redbook says AUD 6500 to 8800

also my wifes

1999 Mazda MX-5 106500m/171400km no aircon

uk value £2500

redbook AUD 7700 to 9700

Cheers

Category B for yours, Category C for the other half's - no aircon is a killer in Oz.

Sorry another euro 1 for ya!

1. 2001 vauxhall zafira, 1.8l, 96k miles aircon

2. market value Ireland bout 2k but just bought it for €1350

3. value Au $5400 - $7200

Category C, I'm afraid.

2003 Ford Ranger Twin cab XLT (Courier in Aus). 110,000 miles. with aircon

£4000 in UK

$6,900 - $8,600 in Aus

Category C.

I have been reading this thread with much interest and would like to ask for some advice about exporting my car.

I have a 176 visa and will be relocating to Adelaide some time around September 2013. Wish it was earlier but I have a contract to fulfil :mask:

Anyway, I have a :

VW Golf GTi MkV 5 Door Manual / 50K miles / 2006 / Aircon as standard

UK Value: £8000 min as it has extras fitted such as Leather interior, Bi-Xenons, rear side airbags, ipod connection & multichanger.

AUS Value: $17,300 - $19,700

It's a category B - in nice nick and fully loaded, I'd suggest bringing it over.

Mini Cooper, 2006, Air Con

68,000 miles

£5995

Oz $ 13,300 - 15,400

Ok well it's a Category C, BUT it's close enough to a B that you'd still consider it if you love it THAT much!

Hi Iron Chef

Could you help with this one please

Honda CRV EX 2.0 Petrol with Air Con

32,000 miles

UK Value £13000

Oz Value circa $22000

Thanks

Best to sell it off before you leave, that's actually not a bad price in the UK if you can get that for it.

We have a 2008 Mazda 5 ts2 1.8 petrol (7 seater) with aircon, 58,000 mls, dont think they were sold in australia, how much would it be worth over there and is it worth bringing?

Have you got a value for it in the UK? I'm tending to think it's probably worth selling it off over there.

Help Iron chef, A Rover 75 Connoisseur, 58K miles, 1999, Air Con, £1000 or less UK, Oz$ Unknown, for keeps as the car was well kept, is it worth it?

If that's all it's worth in the UK, then yes it's worth bringing over. I have a weird soft spot for 75s.

2006 Volvo C70 hard top convertible, value in the Uk arround £6-7k, value in oz $20-30k. 29000 miles

Category A, quite comfortably.

You can't accurately as it depends on the person making the valuation but in Chef's disclaimers he is estimating 75% of market value.

Category A. My calculator works on an estimated customs value that is market value minus 25%

Weird for some reason I used the multi-quote function but yours aren't showing up when I reply!

Using a few rough calculations it still comes in as a Category A.

If you haven't owned the car for 12 months, you can bring your car in under a Carnet De Passage, which is effectively a passport for your car. You don't have to pay taxes, but you can't sell the car and have to export it before your carnet expires. When I find some spare time, I'll update that one my website lol

1) Year/make/model/mileage/aircon or no aircon

2005 (05 plate) Audi A3 5 door sportback TDi, auto, 55,000 miles, aircon

2) Market value in the UK (be realistic!)

£7-8000?

3) Market value in Australia (search via www.redbook.com.au and make sure you click right through to the description to get the correct price ranges - if you don't chances are you're looking at the price it was sold at when it was new)

Red book says $16-19k private price.

We'd be coming on a 457, if that makes any difference?

Cheers..

Any chance you could run this through the ol' spreadsheet...

1. 2006 Mazda MX-5 2.0L Sport 6sp Manual, 57,000 miles, No aircon

2. UK Market (Dealer) value £7,500 - £8,500

3. Aus Market value (best guess on this because the exact model names differ somewhat) Private price $19,800 - $22,500

Cheers.

457 is fine for importing. That's a Category B. Low mileage will bump your resale up in Oz.

Thanks for confirming what I thought. Think i'll try and source a potential buyer first though.

Thanks again - cracking thread (and name...)!
