Iron Chef
Ours is a 2010 VW Touran, only just realised they're not sold in Australia so I'm guessing the insurance premiums would be high? Insurance in Australia is relatively cheap compared to the UK, and the specialist insurers aren't really that much higher than the mainstream ones. I wouldn't let insurance be the deciding factor. The Touran isn't sold here, but the engine and drivetrain is shared with other models so servicing would be fine. It will really only be when you come to sell it that buyers won't really know what it is. Hi Iron Chef, Is it worth bringing my car to Sydney? 2014 Audi A6 Avant S-Line 2L Diesel 7 Speed Auto Daytona Grey 30K Miles (by the time we leave) Heated Seats, Air Con, BOSE Upgrade, Full MMI Navigation Bluetooth, Lighting Pack Realistic UK £24000 Realistic Aussie $65000 Aussie Private Price Guide $52,400 - $57,100 Sydney, NSW Cheers At this stage, it's probably not worth doing, but in 12 months' time I suspect it will, as it will keep depreciating in the UK faster than it would in Australia. jodipodi
Iron Chef.... Any help? Dacia duster 1.6 2wd, 2013, petrol, nothing additional to it literally BOG STANDARD but a bloody good cheap car in UK. Paid £8995 new, don't deprecate much as far as I know... Say it's worth 6.5K now? 22K on the clock No air con but can be installed if we wanted to if it was worth bringing over. Thanks a lot Edited November 25, 2015 by jodipodi

Thanks a lot Unfortunately Dacia isn't sold in Australia, so it would be a bit of an orphan over here, and hard to service or sell. Particularly given the cost of fitting aircon, I wouldn't advise bringing it over from a financial standpoint.

No worries it'll get sold to help towards the next one. Thanks a lot iron chef

Iron Chef
Hi Iron Lady! Many thanks Hi MrsW welcome to Poms in Oz! From a personal perspective I would find a manual diesel Insignia estate very tempting to buy, but I suspect when the time comes you'd find it was a bit of an orphan in terms of selling it at a reasonable price. This might be one to leave behind unless you plan to drive it for a few years in Australia before selling.

itegoa
Mazda RX-8 (2004). I've been trying to sell it in the UK. It started at about £1500, but since then i've gradually dropped the price to £600 and still can't find a buyer. Looking on carsales.com.au a similar aged car is selling between $10K to $13K in Australia. Engine has been rebuilt so it has value to me. What sort of price would I be looking at shipping it from the UK (South Wales) to Brisbane?

RichieBenaud
Hi Iron Chef, Just a quick thank you on behalf of most people for the amazing thread you have made here - I am sure a lot of people are really grateful for this info. I couldn't find if you ever did put your spreadsheet up, and sorry to bother you if your have. Just a quick question to see whether the following would be worth importing? Also, I am wondering if the customs value, which determines whether you pay luxury car tax, can be the price you paid for your car in the UK (e.g. mine is 30K GBP, so would just miss the lower limit, but its 'street value' in Australia would be circa A$100K, taking it over the limit)? Thanks again for the amazing amount of time you have put into this, it just staggers me. - 2006 - Porsche, 911 Careera Convertible - Convertible - 3.6L - Manual - RWD - 21000mi (33000km) - no special features - has aircon - 30000 GBP - $68,000 - $76,600 - Circa $90000 - Hobart (Melbourne no worries)

Welcome to the forums. Definitely worth bringing the Porsche back - with a customs valuation on arrival you wouldn't pay LCT on it when it enters the country. Iron Chef
It's probably breakeven at market value, but given you've obviously thrown some money at it, maybe it's worth bringing it over and enjoying it here. I don't think we got the 325i in sedan form, certainly not in manual, so it would be a rare beast here! gazza
Hi We are looking to ship my Suzuki Swift Sport back to the UK from Perth, it's only done 1500 km's and I purchased it in November 2015. My husband has a Mitzy Challenger purchased the same time and also low mileage and we have be quoted RoRo $4950 for both. I feel it's worth it, what do you think? If we trade them in or try to sell them here we will lose more money than it costs to ship and from what I have seen they are dearer to purchase in the UK. We do have belongings to ship also and wondered if a container would be better and that we can them maybe store stuff in the cars. Is this right or am I deluded!! Thanks

Thanks $4950 is a pretty reasonable quote, but bear in mind that won't include clearance in the UK. Given they're fairly new, I would actually advise taking them over. You will cop a walloping here if you try and sell them now. Hold on to them until May if you can - once you've owned them 6 months (and have lived here for 12) you won't pay any VAT when they come into the UK.
