toiletries & soap powder in shipping container?

Hi folks, we have decided to ship all our gear to Oz and I have a wee question about toiletries and such.

My kids all have eczema and I have sensitive skin and the only soap powder we can currently use which doesnt irritate our skin is Fairy Non Bio soap powder. Would they accept it through customs if there was boxes of sealed soap powder in shipping container? Can you stock up on your fave toiletries and have them in container also? Obviously everything would be declared as Im not risking anything for our dream.

Obviously Id like to ship as much as poss as having whole container and as Im well fussy about things Id like my comfort back-up. Hubby wont use anything other than Lynx Africa so would want to stock up on that as dunno if its available over there?

I was looking at list of things not allowed but some things werent so clear so thought Id ask those who have been through it all.

TIA

Donna

Don't quote me on this but I thought I read you could not ship soap powder, only the liquid for sone readon. Fwiw I did some research and they do big brand non bio in Aus. Not Fairy but something like Persil but under a different name. We use either Fairy or Persil non bio here and both have been good on hubby's skin.

Not sure on the aerosols in container. In the long term I'd think your hubby could find a decent alternative in the deo department.

Thinking from a shipping line, insurance, customs or aqis perspective I can think of no reason why you cannot include washing powder. You would not even need to declare it. At some point you are going to have to find something which works. So I would have thought including 2 or 3 large boxes to start you off while you try to find something suitable would be perfectly acceptable as being for personal use. Washing liquid is an issue because any liquid is an issue; it invalidates your insurance. If you want to take liquids I would recommend enclosing it in plastic crate with a lid on. At least then if it spills it will only spill on the other things in the crate.

Aerosols can't be included in air shipments but there is no restriction on sea shipments. It can get very hot inside the container and there is some scaremongering about exploding cannister. I have never known it happen. Likewise pack them in a plastic crate and wad out any spaces well.

I do not think you can get fairy ( unless a British shop sells it.) However you can get LUX FLAKES, that is the same sort of powder as fairy and should be fine for you to use. I think you will find that Non Bio powder is more common here than in the UK.

Some shipping companies will refuse to pack aerosol cannisters on their containers due to them being a hazzard, not only to your goods but to other peoples aswell (if going groupage), we did ask this question when interviewing shipping companies. Other companies did not have a problem with it being packed. So you might want to check with your shipping company on that one.

Tell him not to bother with lynx, I tried it and stood outside, but I did not get women chasing me as they do in the advert. just my wife saying.......... Oh dear what are you trying to do..... another wasted $10

Seriously i find the local ALDI has a lot of the Lynx stuff, and an internet site called grocery run, an on line grocery shopping site.
