Jucy Campervans Vs Spaceships!

Hey Everyone,

I was wondering if you could help us. We are moving to Melbourne in Feb, and are planning on doing a bit of travelling before we commence works on oue WHVS.

The plan is to hire a campervan up the coast on a budget, and Jucy campervans seem to be quite widely advertised. Their rivals are Spaceship van hire.

Has anyone had experience campervanning with any of these companies, and is one better than the other?

Also, Is this a good way of getting around, or really expensive, as I know you have to pay campsite fees on top of the rental!

Many thanks

Andrea and Andy x

Sorry, haven't rented with either of them, but wanted to say don't go with Wicked - not only are their morals slightly dubious, but the broken down campers you see at the side of the road constantly? They will be wicked campers apparently.....very very badly maintained.

Camping doesn't have to be too expensive - get yourselves a copy of the Camps Australia book - they are up to version 6 now, so the latest copy is Camps Australia 6, but we have the 5 version with the updated notes from the website. Its really really expensive to get it here in the UK, even on Ebay, so easier to get once you get there - have a look on hostel boards and gum tree or failing that just try and buy a copy new. It lists every free and very low cost (ie $5 a night) campsite in Oz, so lots of places to stop without getting hassled (or fined in NSW/Vic!) without spending a fortune. There are a couple of different editions, eg spiral bound, one with loads of big photos, and one just with normal photos and stuff, but essentially they all list the same camp sites, are reviewed each year, and members of the public can post updates on the website as well, in case one closes, or increases its fees or whatever. Each site has all its facitilies listed as well - a complete and utter camping bible imho :D

Hi Lucy,

Thanks for your help.

We do have a few quick questions!

We have got a quote online for a one way rental from Melbourne to Brisbane. When the payment page comes up, is that the final total for the rental, as it doesn't mention whether a one way charge was applied. We just don't want to find extra costs cropping up when we pay!

Also, Can we pay on a debit card, as we do not want to incur costs with a credit card, and do we have to pay the total amount in one go, or a deposit now and the rest when we pick up the car?

If our plans change, and we need to amend rental dates, is that possible and is there a cost involved?

MANY THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!

Andrea.

Hi Postive Pixie,

Thanks for your help :)

I took a look at the Camping guide, it looks fab :). We will purchase it in Oz, as like you say, it is pricey over here in the UK!

Thanks for the info too on Wicked campers, certainly one to avoid!!!

Hi Andrea

Thanks for getting in touch with your questions.

We do not charge a one way fee for bookings over 21 days - so if your quote is longer than 21 days then you wouldn't be quoted a one way fee online. If your quote is less than 21 days when you get to the final payment screen (where you put your name and details in) it will break down the cost of the rental and then under that it will have the insurance option you have chosen along with the $150 one way fee cost - which would then all be totalled in a final cost on that page.

Yes - you can pay by debit card. We do however charge a 2% surcharge for debit or credit card payments. If you wanted to avoid the surcharge then you can pay us by cash as well.

When you confirm your booking you are required to pay a 20% deposit to secure the booking and then the balance you will pay directly to us when you collect your vehicle in Melbourne. If your plans should change for any reason you can change the dates for free the first time, any further amendments have a $25 amendment fee.

I hope that this helps and if you have any more questions let me know. We hope to see you in some JUCY Wheels soon!

Cheers

Lucy xx
