176 - Police & Medical Checks

Recommended Posts

Guest dmcevilly

Hi there,

Was just wondering....... I have just sent off for my SS for SA. Ever keen to be one step ahead of the visa process (I should be an agent!)... lol Im wondering would it be advisable to start police and medical checks now? So when DIAC ask for them when 176 app going through I already have them to hand. Have already rang my local medical check partner for DIAC and waiting time is 4 weeks for an appointment!!! Also living in the UK who do I apply with for a Police check?? Got two different answers so far from looking at previous threads and posts........

I'd wait until you have SS approved first just in case.

My agent has strongly advised me not to do them untill they are requested as they have a shelf life .

However im like u and want to be pro active ,

Once i have submitted my papers to DIAC i think i will be booking and obtaining the med and police checks so theyre ready and waiting ,

Any time before u submit your DIAC app is deffo to soon as you never know how long things are going to take

They last a year so assuming all goes through OK your validation date will be set to when DIAC receive the first of either the meds or PCC which means you may not have long to actually get there, which could be good or bad depending on your situation.

I never thought of that , so essentially if i had my police checks sent to me and in my posession today , and diac didnt want them for 8 months from now , id only actually have 4 months remaining to validate my visa

Yeah, I don't see any issue with applying for your police clearance. It takes them 10 days to turn it around anyway. My WA SS application was approved within 24 hours.

You'll need your TRN before you have your medical, so you'll need to wait for that.

Hope that helps. Good luck with you WA SS!

Not true. You can do it prior to having a TRN. However the clinic won't be able to efile but instead will have to courier them to Global Health in Sydney, old school.

basically yes, They have a life of 12 months.

Your validation period to enter or visit Australia is normally 12 months from the date of medicals/police checks what ever came first. So if you have medicals or police checks done in December 2011 your validation date would be December 2012, irrespective of when the visa is granted

I have a question regarding police checks.

I am irish and am going to get one for here.

I was in Oz on a year working holiday 5-6 years ago. Do I need to get one from Oz too?

Thanks in advance

If you have spent 12 months total time in AUstralia in last 10 years (can be made up od smaller amounts of time) you will need a Australia Police Check.
