interstate move

Recommended Posts

We had our furniture shipped to SYD but change of plans and we are moving to Brisbane. The cost from the moving company in Sydney to move our furniture from SYD to BNE is $2024. We have about 3/4 of a 20 foot container amount of stuff

seems high??

So You are paying for

Two men and a truck

Travel 1000 KM and pay for fuel

Drop of or empty trailor

Overnight stay

Travel 1000 km and pay for fuel for return journey

Wages for 2 drivers for probably 3 days.

To be honest i would have expected it to be a lot more.

By UK standards id be quoting this , based on milage

2000 miles @ 50p p m

£1000 fuel ( in that 50p p m is ware and tare on the vehicle , insurence etc)

2 blokes , 3 days , £150 Per man per day ,

£900

Accomodation , Varies in what city and cost of local travel lodge but id peobably put down £65 per man

£130

£ 100 incidentals and £75 for the boys to have some grub

£175

total £2205 , im not in removals but ive based it on my boys being sent away in the van to do a site job somewhere ,

Depending on the client , actual expected hours to pay the boys etc , might knock £250 off , but its still nearly £2k sterling

based on exchange rate ( 1.58 ) thats $3160 AUD , fuel is silly money here , but oz wages and vehicles cost more , dunno about accomodation in oz . and food would be about the same .

id happily pay your $2000 bill for the 1000 mile relocation .

I would expect it to cost about the same as shipping from the UK. The main costs are at either end, the loading/unloading and delivery. Actual cost of the boat moving from A to B is minimal.

If you're willing to pack yourselves, maybe take a look at http://www.portableondemandstorage.com.au/ they deliver the container, you pack it, and they just pick it up and dump it the other end for you to unpack at your leisure, then come pick it up.
