Guest orlaandjoe
Hiya! For the most part, private health insurance is required prior to a 457 visa being issued, however if you are from a country that is covered by the recriprocal healthcare agreement you will be entitled to register with medicare on your arrival to Oz. I got a great deal for myself and my family with HBA, I went on their website and got the number and did it all over the phone. It only took about ten minutes, they sent us out a letter a few days later that we can lodge with our application. Also you pay a months premium upfront but the policy only starts when you arrive in Australia. Very straightforward really! Hope this helps and that I'm not rambling on  Good luck! Love Shoes
Hi There I think we are at a very similar stage in our application. Maybe we can help each other through the woods! I am mystified regarding x rays as the 457 visa application says I do not need one as his spouse, he needs the full works. Yet today when he rang the medics in Manchester they said I needed one as they change their minds frequently. My husband is going to give me the e-mail address of the company we wish to use. Will post it as soon as I have it. Hope it helps.
Love Shoes
My Hubby has been in touch with these guys. He says they take quarterly payments and will start the cover upon arrival in OZ. Hope this helps. customerservice2@australianunity.com.au
happytimes
hey, We got ours through IMAN. They deal specifically with 457 Health Insurance. They're reasonably priced too which is a bonus!!
Guest haunted1234
we just needed good travel insurance prior to lodging application, no medicals and all approved in 13 days!!!
Guest Bannisters
We went with HBA for our 457 but I think it must depend on which case officer you get. They wouldn't accept the one month upfront and then start paying the rest when you arrive in Oz. So we are having to be covered and paying from now each month. We don't arrive until Feb. It delayed our 457 by over a week. It was approved today.
Chops1963
Hi I used IMAN and am happy with their prices and service (although i did get hit with a notice of a massive increase in premium, but they did recommend a cheaper which was more suitable)
Guest kslh79
Hi we used bupa, after shopping around the others were based in oz and I like to talk to someone if ever there was a problem. Bupa international deal with 457 visa insurance too.we too have to pay it in monthly installments which is annoying seeing as we not in oz yet,but for the sake of having it in order I would recommend.might be worth giving them a ring.very efficient and reasonable too. Freesia
Hi guys Has anyone got any website recommendations for family health insurance for our 457 visa? I think we need to have it before we log our visa, but not to sure? Can anyone help? Thanks:cute: don't have any recommendations (sure lots of people who have already done it will tho) but just to say- if you are from a country with a Reciprocal Health agreement- as with the UK- you only need to arrange private healthcare while you are applying for your 457- once it is granted you register with Medicare- so can then cancel payments

dublinnurse
Hi all, I had my 457 granted back in November and will be heading to Oz in a couple of weeks. I had to submit a lot of supporting documentation but was never asked to provide evidence of adequate private health insurance. I was just reading the details on the visa and noticed it says "Condition - 8501 The visa holder must maintain adequate arrangements for health insurance during their stay in Australia". I am from Ireland and understand we have a reciprocal health agreement but that i will have to register with Medicare... but do I need to take out insurance as well and if so before I arrive or is it something I can do when I get there? thanks dave
Tazzamaraz
I just bought a cheap annual travel insurance cost about £30, it will be fine until we get there and register for Medicare.
jasonorange
I just bought a cheap annual travel insurance cost about £30, it will be fine until we get there and register for Medicare. Thats exactly what my MA told me to do, its all you need to meet the 457 requirements. Just remember to sign up for medicare when you arrive. I dont think you can apply for a TFN until you have been granted your visa.
