AIM route to get assesed as Engineering Manager

Recommended Posts

Guest ozapp

Greetings all,

I'm hoping to get assessed by AIM as an engineering manager because of my degree is in engineering and i have relevant work experience and the required potion within organization structure. I have heard that although AIM is the best path to get assesd as Engineering manager, its also the hardest one to get a positive assessment ! Has anyone in this forum been through the skills assessment process recently ? Has anyone received a positive outcome from AIM ? appreciate it a lot if you can provide tips or advice.

Thanks ,

AIM would fail Bill Gates.

You probably have better options.

May I suggest you run your case past a registered migration agent?

Thanks for the quick reponse wrussell, I'm considering that option too. The thing is, my work experience is more towards the managerial aspects of Engineering, and according to AIMs description about Engineering manager fits with my qualificaions. I can also apply under 'telecom engineer' for engineers australia assesment, but im hoping for a state sponsorship to melbourne and they are currently only having sponsoship for engineering manager. Also i can apply for the same under enginneers australia but they require 5 years in senior management. (I only have 3.5) . Please help guys :arghh:

Hey Ozapp, I received my successful AIM skills result today as an Engineering Manager. As long as you can provide evidence that you meet all of the criteria as detailed in the ANZCO guidelines and on the AIM website you should be OK.

I would have to agree with wrussell though, you might pay for the service but a registered agent does take the guess work out of the process. They are paid to know what to submit and they have loads of experience doing it. We are going with an agent for the whole process because, whilst it isn't rocket science, I don't want to make a stupid mistake and wreck our chances of a new life.

I got my successful AIM skills result last friday for sales and marketing manager, even though a large proportion of my background is actually in engineering!! and whilst I was considering going for engineering manager, my agent suggested I go for sales and marketing manager... we passed without any problem, it was alot of paperwork and pain re-approaching old bosses, but it came in quicker than my sister who is going through NITSL as a teacher!... so I see no reason to believe AIM are a tough route

All those who have applied via AIM would you mind telling me how long the process took and also did you get the letter stating your work experience vaildity? We have been skills assessed via Engineers Australia as Mechanical Engineer (but no work expereince letter as was before 1st July) but do need the extra points for work experience. My wonderful hubby is in the military and so can prove managerial/project tasks much better than actual mech eng tasks so we are thinking we may need to reconsider - however we applied for the 175 last July so may not have a lot of time before a case officer is appointed - oh and he is about to deploy you know where for the next 7 months - so he basically has got the last few days of leave to try and hobble something together. Any advice gratefully received (better than putting a £1 in the bucket for Help for Heroes!!)
