457 - Can we become perm residents?

Recommended Posts

Guest KerryandCraig

My partner has been offered a job on a 457, however because our occupations are not on the skills list, does this mean we can't apply to become permanent residents if we decide to stay in Australia?

Any advice would be great, Kerry

Yes as long as you qualify for permanent residency you can stay in Australia, if your occupation is not on SOL but on the ENSOL list which is for ENS PR you maybe can apply for a ENS 856 as long as your employer is happy to sponsor you again.

Thank you for that, I have looked & Craig's job is on the ENSOL list so we are going to check if his new employer would be willing to go down this route in the future.

I'm out here on a 457 visa. What's involved with applying for permanent residency?

Do I need to be on the 457 visa a certain length of time before I can apply for a PR?

Does it again require company sponsorship, and is it a similar process as the 457 visa?

Does it change at all the obligations of the company under the 457 visa?
