Shipping - How long does it actually take

Recommended Posts

Guest Dumsy

I remember shipping companies were saying 6 - 8 weeks. So I thought of starting a thread to hear how long it actually takes from door to door

our 40cubic high container with household ant two cars

loading / pick up from UK : 15 & 16 August

arrived in Melbourne 29th September

expected delivery to residence: 17th October

about 9 weeks

we also got a shared container coming

pick up from residence was 22nd August

has not yet left UK

estimated arrival in Melbourne mid Dec

Hope this helps for all you movers out there :wubclub:

We were told 7-8 weeks by the removal company, however actually took 12 weeks.

Was delayed in Singapore for 10 days, as it was to change ship but missed the connection.

Then was delayed at customs for another 10 days as the inventory wasn't clear enough.

Hope this helps!

Of course if your ship get held up by Somalian pirates it could take years so don't forget the insurance (and that you've got all risks coverage).

Ours was collected from the UK on 3rd August 2011, it was 400 cu ft packed in a shared container. It landed in Port Botany, Sydney last Friday (14th October) and we're hoping to have it in Port Macquarie within 10-14 days from that date. Just hope all goes well, can't wait to see our stuff again!

Ours was collected and packed 20th feb (Ayrshire, Scotland). Sat in port for 3 weeks however as we were shipping 1/2 container and had to wait for another 1/2!

Arrived Sydney 10th June thereabouts, checked, 1 item destroyed, delivered to Moree NSW (700k from sydney) 18th June.
