IELTS 22 October

Recommended Posts

Is anyone here taking the IELTS on 22 October? This is my third attempt at this exam - last time scored 9/7/9/9 - yep, a big fat 7 on the reading. Perhaps someone can train me on how to decipher the exact wording IELTS require when writing down the answers?

Seems like I need training in hieroglyphics.

Hi Sol,

I am appearing for this too; 11th time was it ? Don't even remember it.

BTW i went to fill out an EOR for my last result and as advised by a few people tried to attach my previous result, which was unfortunately not accepted. They said i can't attach any letters or results while i give it for EOR.

Good luck mate :)

Cheers ! 4th Nov will be a crucial day :x

Wow, 11th time? :swoon: Well, I hope we get the scores we need come the 22nd! I really do.... sad thing is this is the only thing I need to complete my application...

Someone here (forgot who it was) has registered to get lessons from the local ESL language center - I was thinking, if I could find tutoring for the reading part only... I'd do it. I think it's worth it - instead of spending so much money on this exam.

Mapster, Lucy Furness, and Durham lets do this! Look what I found - .pdf of a book, "cambridge ielts 7" online for ya'll - hopefully, it'll help us (and whoever else has this misfortune) .... you need a rar file compression software, but the trial version can be downloaded for free.

yeah...I have registered for general module this time...lets see how easier it is than the academic...i just need some free material on speaking practice....i didn't practice at all for writing last time and got 7...and that too after some extremely poor time management...this time i might be able to score 8 in writing but for speaking i can't say...

The reason for doubt on speaking is that the first time i appeared it didn't go well...but i got 6.5...and in my last attempt in june 2011 i believe my speaking was fare better than the previous one...and i was thinking of 7.5-8...but BAM:arghh: rigman got 6.5...

Anyways i am targeting straight 8's.

Speaking is hard to pass info on, I just tried to explain clearly what my thoughts where and made an effort not to use HMM and ER before each sentance and not to use words in the wrong context. If someone with my accent get get 9 anyone can.

I am bit scared now...was thinking to reappear since I got 6.5 in writing but need atleast 7 in all modules....I think better option for me would be to find a state still open to consider 6.5 rather running after IELTS ...

I posted this on the other thread, posting it here too.

The only secret is practice. I did a lots of that but below are some specific pointers to each section.

Listening: Be aware of what you are looking for. Read the questions when the time is given for that. This will help you to get an idea as to what you are looking for in a conversation.

Reading: I did a lot of practice for this. I was very nervous with the reading section. After a few practices I got the hang of selective reading according to the questions asked. This is what helped me.

Writing: Most of us haven't written anything on paper with pen or pencil for a long time, so practicing writing with few sample topics help. It also gives you an idea about the time consumed in completing each section and also the measure of number of words you write. I wrote few essays and also wrote letters with different subjects to get an idea about what to look for.

Speaking: Here be cool and speak normally. A friendly examiner really helps though. Speak clearly and slowly as they are judging only you english capability. Do not get nervous if you get a topic which you don't know too much about, just speak what you know clearly. That should do it.

The other thing is to understand the exam pattern. This is exactly what we need and to know to manage time. Time yourself when you practice as you don't go over during the exam. The only thing I would say is do a lots of practice but slow down just before the exam date. Just relax the day before the exam, do not try to practice too much in the end as it will make you nervous. Best of luck for your exam

Wish it could be possible...I think I messed up writing module myself since I stuck with the exact word limits and didn't fill extra sheets...I thought it may go negative if I write more words to complete the topic...otherwise I was very optimistic about the writing module...

Anyways, SA is still accepting 6.5 but I am not happy..why? don't know?

I wanted to apply for NSW but they need atleast 7 in each...bad luck

Anyone aware if after getting sponsorship from SA, can I work anywhere else for first three years rather going to SA directly and then spend 2 years in SA as per agreement?
