Flood Warning Dandenong Area

Issued at 10:45 am EST on Saturday 1 October 2011

by the Bureau of Meteorology, Victorian Regional Office in consultation with Melbourne Water

The Dandenong Creek catchment has received rainfall averaging about 13 mm since 09:00 AM Friday (31/09/2011).

At Rowville (Police Road Retarding Basin) the water level in the Dandenong Creek peaked at 4.5 metres at 13:15 yesterday. The water level in the creek at this location is currently at 4.29 metres, below its minor flood level of 4.6 metres, and falling.

Water levels in Dandenong Creek at 10:17 AM on 01/10/2011 were:

Bungalook Creek at Fussell Rd RB, Montrose: 0.24 m, falling

Dandenong Ck. at Liverpool Rd RB, The Basin: 1.67 m, falling

Dandenong Ck. at Wantirna Road, Heathmont: 0.62 m, falling

Blind Ck at Retarding Basin, Knox: 0.23 m, steady

Blind Ck at High Street Road, Wantirna South: 0.32 m, falling

Corhanwarrabul Ck at Stud Road, Scoresby: 0.60 m, steady

Dandenong Ck. at Police Road RB, Rowville: 4.29 m, falling, [Minor flood level 4.6 m]

Dandenong Ck. at Hammond Road, Dandenong: 2.32 m, rising

Mile Ck. at Springvale: 0.11 m, rising

Mile Ck. at Keysborough: 0.51 m, steady

Eumemmering Ck at Lyndhurst: 1.1 m, rising

 

No further warning will be issued for this event.

In the interests of community safety the SES suggests following precautions:

 

 

  • Don't walk, ride or drive through floodwater,
  • Don't allow children to play in floodwater,
  • Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains, and
  • Keep well clear of fallen power lines
