457 visa to perm residency

Recommended Posts

Guest Dumsy

hi all,

i am trying to find out how can we become permanent residence whilst being on a 457 temp visa. what are the options / requirements?

do we need to be sponsored by the employee for perm visa again?

can we apply ourselves (e.g after 2 years on 457 visa being in o and have worked full time)?

better to go via the skilled migrant route?

hope someone can help who has been in our position.

thx:notworthy:

Few options -

Company to sponsor you

Apply yourself (which is what I did) - You can apply whenever you like if you have enough point's no need to wait 2 years

I applied for Independent skilled Migration visa (think that's a 452).. I work in IT so had to -

Apply to ACS (Australian Computer Society) for approval of my skills

Once that passed

Apply for perm residency

When app is processed at the end you need to leave the country and obtain visa stamp in passport then come back. I went to NZ for a week. They class your app as offshore even when you are already here and working which is strange. No need to do this if you are sponsored by a company.
