Hi and welcome to the forum, we have a few members in Mackay, take a look for Bobj and also Smirfyduo both are wonderful people and can help with any questions on the area. We are further up in Cairns and love the area. Have you got jobs to come to?

Where is the best place to live in Mackay:biggrin:

Downtown Ball Bay:jiggy:

Apart from that, Any of the suburbs where there is a rise in ground, so the periodic floods don't inundate your place.

Andergrove, West Mackay, Dolphin Heads, Glenella, Mt. Pleasant etc are good areas and reasonably close to the shopping complexes.

Cheers, Bobj.

At the moment, any place you can find!!

With the mines, there is increasing pressure on housing in Mackay making rentals hard to come by at the moment. The rental market works different in Aus to the UK - if you want to view a house to rent, they have open viewings - everyone who is interested in the house puts in an application form..... and the lottery begins!

One things that does seem to give you an advantage is being prepared. Have all the forms, payslips etc ready BEFORE you view a place. Chat with the agent showing the house, explain your situation etc.

Like Bobj says though, the higher the better!! Mackay does flood. If you are willing to go a bit further out, Rural View, Blacks Beach and Bucasia are nice areas too.

All depends on where you are working / need for schools / public transport / distance you are willing to travel every day.
