donaldouk
Hi, Me and my wife are planing to head to Oz next year on a 457visa. My wife is a dentist and have been working for the last 3 years in the UK. She is currently grossing £92k. I have checked:- http://www.payscale.com/research/AU/Job=Dentist/Salary but this does not reflect how much they earn. I know it can be varies between different states. But any reply will be appreciated. Also she have been in touch with a dental agency which charge 16% and with the higher cost of living in Oz, will we be better off?!? Cheers

Perthbum
Looking at how much they charge they must be on 4 times the UK average, the cost of dental treatment in Oz in mental.
Petals
Dentists are in private practice in Australia so guess it will depend on the practice. We do not have free dental apart from the Dental Hospital which is a training hospital. So guess you hang up the monocle and reap the benefits
donaldouk
Thanks for the quick reply. Money is sure good but, she always seem to work her butt off and get stressed in the uk. hoping Oz will be a better lifestyle. After reading few threads here, people seem to be making mega bucks in oz. With all types of occupations. E.g a sparky making 2/3times more in the oz. I'm just an office worker, but will do anything. Will I find jobs on a partner 457visa easily? Perthbum
At which part? Lol.... "people seem to be making mega bucks in oz" When you take everything into account most people are not better off as far as I could see, I had no money left over at the end of the month as a tradie and I worked hard. don't have much left over here also I have to say. Petals
I know my dentist works pretty hard, so hard in fact he got carpel tunnel. Lets face it, if the money is good, the work is hard. Not many get away with big bucks and short hours and no worries. Money = responsibility = depends on the person and how they handle it. Zman
I would say that you can make a lot of money as a dentist in Oz as long as you're running your own practice or a partner in one. I've been a patient with the same practice for about 16 years. The previous owners (who'd migrated from the UK in the early 90s) appeared (by the types of cars they had) to enjoy a very good standard of living. Having sold the business, they went into semi-retirement and they were in their early 40s. I quizzed the new practice owner about the business and he confirmed that, afetr doing the hard yards establishing a practice, most dentists (like specialist medical practitioners) do earn a good salary but, obviously, he wouldn't tell me how much. Having said that, he's driving a BMW 335i which isn't a cheap car in Oz.
