Newly Qualified Midwife

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am currently a student midwife. I am wondering whether I would be able to get a job and a visa once I qualify. I understand that some healthcare trusts want 2 years experience, but, I have been told that I could join a graduate programme in Australia.

Does anyone have any help with this.

Thanks

You can apply for a graduate programme, some may give priority to Australian trained nurses if there is competition for places. It's worth exploring - I've also heard that some student nurses do an elective placement in Aus (not sure how you go about this - but your uni may know)

I think what I am really trying to find out is if I would be offered a job and get sponsorship as a newly qualified midwife, or do they insist on having a number of years experience.

You'd probably have to contact the hospitals that you're interested in working in to find out for sure

I am really new to this, so sorry for all the questions, but, is it the hospital that sponsors you or is it the state?

Either or ... but I think that for state sponsorship which is a PR visa you have to do your skills assessment which will require you to have 12 months experience (I think) in order to do that successfully. I came on an independent PR so not 100% sure
