Hi My son (14) goes to Helensvale State High School, and he really likes it, it has a good report, don't know about any school's in Robina, you could always phone the school's. zippyderby 150 Posted August 27, 2011 Hi Giggle! We to live in Helensvale and have been here for exactly a year today. We absolutely love the place having come from Derby in the Midlands and have two boys 17 and 10 who both go to the local primary and state schools here in Helensvale which are great as they have both settled in well and made some good friends. With Helensvale being so close to the beaches, motorway(I work up in South Brisbane) and Theme parks its ideal as theres always somewhere to go at weekends. We,ve had our ups and downs in the earlier months overhere but now is feeling more like home now. A word of warning though we looked at about 15 rentals in Helensvale and found about half of them pretty messy, untidy not what we expected though which really surprised us!! We stayed in a short-term accomadation(3-weeks,4-bed) in Upper-Coomera when we came to basically get set up i.e house rentals, cars, jobs which was just the right time needed. Let us know if you decide to settle here and any advice on Helensvale feel free to PM us,cheers,Dave,Debs,Will and Theo.. Living on the Gold Coast since 2010
Guest Brissydeb Posted August 30, 2011 Hi Zippyderby, I'm so glad you said that you love living in Helensvale as we are hoping to move there early next year (if we ever sell this house)!! We also have boys aged 10, 17 and 20 and I am a bit worried that there will not be enough for the eldest 2 to do. What do the older ones do in the evenings? We visted the primary school also and that seems lovely. We have been to Helensvale and really got a good feel for the place. Debsx

Guest blackwater Posted September 10, 2011 Thanks so much for such a great post, we are narrowing down the search to Helensvale and are on our merry way in Jan with 2 kids 13 and 11 years so its really great to get your perspective. Will keep that in mind about the rentals is there an agent you would recommend or is it a case of driving around, also if you don't mind could you pm me the name of the accommodation you stayed at initially. Thanks again, Debbie Hi Giggle! zippyderby 150 Posted September 14, 2011 Hi all, another reason to come to Helensvale especially if your children are in to sports is the success stories of the last couple of weeks of a couple of former pupils who went to the Helensvale High School and represented Australia in there respective sports! This Monday(21st Sept) they are having a parade on the Gold Coast for Sammy Stosur such is her popularity over here.! Here are some of there sucesses.... http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2011/09/12/348681_gold-coast-lead-story.html http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2011/09/05/346591_gold-coast-news.html Living on the Gold Coast since 2010
ozziepom 202 Posted September 21, 2011 We live in Helensvale and like it, but be aware its a fairly big and diverse suburb, lots of sporting clubs etc near the town center and Discovery Drive but reasonably "built up" for Aus. Much quieter and more waterfront land further west towards Hope Island and Sanctuary cove. Decent commute by car to Bris (around an hour if you leave early) but the motorway is like a racetrack but without the good driving manners, which turns into a car park around Springwood. We wanted to be on the Gold Coast and Helensvale is a good compromise, Robina is a little further away, from both downtown Gold Coast, and also Brisbane. Lastly if you're looking to buy bargain hard, lots of property on the market and prices seem to be falling. Cheers!

ozziepom 202 Posted September 21, 2011 Hi ozziepom,We too live in Helensvale, been here 5yrs now and agree completely with what you have said. Annie x Thanks, its only been 3 months for us (although I previously lived on the Gold Coast for 3 years back in the 90's). Just curious, do you commute to Bris and if so how bigger difference have the Springwood roadworks made? I'm looking fwd to them finishing!
Guest J-inOz Posted September 22, 2011 We live in Helensvale and love it. It is so close to amenities ie. shopping centre, train station, good bus routes, swimming centre and skate park. It is an older suburb but we like it. We are 10-15 mins to all theme parks and 20 mins from Surfers. The schools have a good reputation and I have found them really good so far. Rentals can be hard to come by sometimes because there are more owner occupiers here than some areas where there are a high number of rental properties (pacific pines, upper coomera etc) I don't really know much about Robina only that it has a huge shopping centre. NZPom 10 Posted September 22, 2011 Was about to do a search on Helensvale on here but no need! We really like the look of it - surprised about what has been said about rentals as there look to be lots of rentals when I look online. Having said that, I have experience of NZ rentals and seeing as we live in an earthquake hit suburb where half the people are now homeless and all our homes are broken, I doubt we'll find it a hardship! Interesting to hear what's been said about schools too!

Hi ozziepom, I myself don't commute, but my husband has to for meetings once a week or so. Hubby says Springwood roadworks have only added about 5-10 mins travel time from Helensvale to Southbank(thats leaving about 7.30am...arriving about 55 mins later)....it used to take between 45-50 mins........hope this helps, Annie x

We rent and got a good one in Helensvale...good landlord and agent...been in same house for over 5yrs. Regarding schools...(we have a son 17yrs )..had no probs with Primary or High school. Hope this helps, Annie x
