Guest sudzy
Anyone flown with Emirates? WE're going to Perth via Dubai with them and wondering if anyone can tell me how they got on with them?!!! Company bought the tickets so I think they are the cheapest option. Any input appreciated!

Didnt matter what time of year i picked the price seemed to stay the same. Excellent value for money xx
cluster13
We only used them once to get over here but would have no hesitation using them again the service was first class ( though we were in economy ). Enjoy
biffo
My experience is that there is little to choose from between the major airlines. I now choose based on duration of the flight and cost. Emirates, Singpore, Quantas and Brunei have all been decent flights however no alcohol on Brunei makes it a less favourable option for me The only airline I would not recommend based on comfort and convenience are air asia, a friend says that they are cheap because they are cheap but he would fly with them again because they are cheap. Just be wary of all the add ons to the base price, like taking luggage or wanting food.
3FatCats
You get 30kg in Economy with Emirates!!!
J&T
Flown with them 4 times now via Dubai. Can't fault them! Very comfortable flights and they were fantastic with the kids!
Kirsty M
Have always found Emirates excellent. Flown with them many times from Glasgow to Japan & Oz. Very handy being for us Scots being able to give Heathrow a bodyswerve. Love the baggage allowance!
RockDr
By all accounts, they're a great airline, just make sure you check up on the drug laws as some common medications aren't allowed in Dubai, and avoid the poppy seed rolls at Heathrow... http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/travel/news/article3333905.ece
Guest siamsusie
Drug restrictions in the UAE Essentially drugs that may be over the counter in your home country could be banned in the UAE. This could include many common cold and cough remedies.Various sleeping tablets, painkillers, anti-depressants and hormone replacement therapy drugs are banned in the UAE, as well as sex stimulants such as Viagra for example. If you are going to bring in your drugs, then at the very least, make sure that you have a copy of your prescription and note from your doctor on the reason you need to take such medication. Here is the full list: (If you are searching for a specific drug, it might be worth trying the search function above or a cntrlF) CD(A) - Psychotropics (These are drugs for which a prescription must be held. The more detailed the medical report from the authorising doctor which can accompany any drug in this category, the better. In the UAE, they can only be dispensed upon production of a registered health authority-approved prescription. They include some common sleeping tablets, painkillers, anti-depressants and hormone replacement therapy/HRT) Please do scroll down on this link for banned medications without a doctor's letter/prescrciption. http://www.grapeshisha.com/plan-your...abu-dhabi.html I have posted on medications on Post 5 regarding medications etc on the Emirates Post, its certainly worth while checking through your medications to ascertain whether you require a Dr's letter to accompany your meds. Guest sudzy
Thanks all for the helpful replies!! I heard all the horror stories about the drugs thing in Dubai. I'll be leaving my Solpadeine in my suitcase in the hold!! From what I can make out, it's ok to have valium on my person if I have a letter from my doc, is that right?? Hving to worry about my stress meds is another stress I don't need. :twitcy:
Guest sudzy
By the way, and I know they're all different and it's hard to predict, but how full are flights usually? Does it depend on the time of year? It's Airbus 380 and we're going on a sunday. Just wondering if me and mr. sudzy might get 3 seats to ourselves or if it's more probable that there will be someone in the third seat! JoandJon
Gotta love Emirates - they have the best inflight entertainment system, you can spend at least 2 hours just deciding what you're going to watch! and the baggage allowance.... mmmmmmmmm and even better (for us) they fly from GATWICK! no horrible Heathrow We flew emirates to Melb last year for our wedding (you remember the Ash cloud? We certainly do!) and they were brilliant all the way. Mind you Singapore are also great - i'm flying with them this time, yucky Heathrow

Guest bapaserch
Have to agree, Emirates are great for the price. Have flown Glasgow to Oz and back with them many times. The good thing was the connecting flights were pretty close together, so not a lot of waiting around, however the down side was that a couple of times the Glasgow-Dubai flight was delayed and so I missed my connecting flight to Melb. No problem though - they put everyone up in a hotel for the night then got us on a late flight next morning and, okay, no upgrade, but they made sure to put us in rows with lots of empty seats so there was lots of room to stretch out. The entertainment system is second to none (I have wiled away hours watching films, TV series, playing games etc.) and the cabin crew are just lovely (take note, you BA nazis). Can't recommend them highly enough. And the fact I don't have to go through the nightmare that is Heathrow is even better
JoandJon
Anyone who flies from somewhere other than Heathrow is obviously run by people who know Heathrow well I've never flown BA long haul so can't comment on their customer service - I've never been brave enough to try them with the stuff I've read! I have flown long haul Bangkok Uk a few times. Its not the actual airline I dislike, its the crew's attitude which I find arrogant. For me a good journey is the start of a new life or a holiday and I feel hard done by when I receive poor service.
Guest bapaserch
Flew BA to Oz once with fiance, Glasgow/London/Bangkok first leg - the cabin crew were just awful - yelling at people to put their window blind thingys up or down, keep their feet behind their seats, put their blankets away etc. with stern faces. Then as soon as the flights changed to Qantas (and maybe I'm being biased, lol) the cabin crew were lovely, warm, good-humoured and discreet. Although they couldn't understand a word my Scottish fiance said. He asked for "orange juice" with his breakfast and the flight attendant nodded and handed him a can of Fosters. Bless her. JoandJon
Lol, Beer for breakfast is a bit much... Service is really important when you're stuck with it for 24 hours - growly faced grumpy-pants as flight attendants would drive me insane very very quickly and I don't think it's even worth the risk! fleabo
We have flown a range of airlines to Australia. Emirates are good. To be honest though, I would happily trade an excellent cabin crew and service for pilots who speak English and can fly a plane - not diss-ing any particular airline.
