I used to love Richard Littlejohn on sky when he used to point out ludicrous things happening up and down the country and at the end of the rediculous story he would say .............. you couldn't make it up.

Well heres one for yer .............. the government are hammering the hard pressed working man and woman at present, we are all having to tighten our belts and what have they just announced ?

They are spending £156 million pounds sending people round to our houses to tell us not to use our cars and to use public transport ............ £156 million pounds wasted at a time when the country is skint ................. You couldn't make it up.

I'm talking about wasting money here, at a time when the country is really struggling ............ its not long back when another crackpot idea was dreamt up ............ the putting of spy cameras in wheely bins to check on what we were throwing away.............. you couldn't make it up. Councils are cutting ............. Everything jobs, services, closing down swimming pools, libraries, etc and they decided to waste god knows how much on this crazy scheme. If the idiots who are coming round to our houses to tell us not to drive end up knocking on my door, they will wish they hadn't ............. who would be stupid enough to take a numpty job on like that, the abuse they will get will be massive and ............ deserved.

You couldn't make it up.

Anyone else heard of any other crazy schemes?

Our hod carrier cant drive and gets the bus sometimes, but he's been moaning about the prices tbh, said he went about 3 stops the other day and it was nearly £2 i think,so it doesnt sound cheap even compared to using a car nowdays.

I dont really think we need encouraging not to use the car given the cost of diesel,im putting £90 a week in to get to the far reaches of the wirrall for work,im poodling along atm at about 55 to 60 mph on the motorway to eek as much out of a gallon as i can.

Alright hoff,

have you read To hell in a handcart by Littlejohn? It was written a few years ago and would be very funny if a lot of it were not true, it basically outline's how mad our country has become with red tape, beurocracy and people bumming off the state particulaly targeted.

I suppose it happens everywhere, but we are skint here in the uk and crackpot ideas like this just wind us all up, when we are having to tighten our belts and have no pay rises and the government say we have to suffer and then waste hundreds of millions ............... You couldn't make it up.

The economy is in a black hole, public sector jobs are dropping faster than Katie Price’s knickers and families are being stung by extortionate food and fuel price hikes.

But guess what the latest taxpayer-funded public initiative is from the Government?

Soon hundreds of thousands of families across the country will be visited by a team of jobsworths who will knock on their doors to tick them off about using their cars.

Armed with timetables and cycle route maps, they will deliver a doorstop lecture on “sustainable travel” benefits.

I only hope they’ve taken out personal accident insurance, because I know what the response will be.

The “personal travel adviser” campaign is part of a £156million scheme to persuade people to stop driving their vehicles.

That’s £156million that could have been spent on improving our overcrowded public transport system so we wouldn’t be forced into using our cars.

Utter madness.

It's such a crazy thing to waste money on. I dont drive at all, & have no intention of learning to. However I used to ride a motorbike. I got a letter from the DVLA this morning not saying my licence is out of date but saying my photo card needs up dating & to do this will cost me £20 & the photo machine now costs £5. There is only one difference in my photo taken a mere six years ago & that is I now have a fringe. I'm not using my licence atm, not sure if I will use it again, so this updating business is an annoyance & yet more ways of asking for money when things are tight.

Don't mean to get in the way of a good rant. Just hate sensationalism in any form. I think if you read the article over you see it says "The “personal travel adviser” campaign is part of a £156million scheme". Not "£156million on personal travel advisors" as portrayed in the initial post.

Huh? I'm sure you were having a go at me on the other thread about global warming and how we should all do our bit to be more sustainable. Not in the mood to be all environmental this week?

The first part of your post is a presumption, and the second part tells me it's ok for people to pay for environmental initiatives just so long as it's not part of your own taxes.

Well done,

Ahhhhh, I recognise sarcasm. I can also recognise hypocrisy. Good Night :wubclub:

We might or might not improve the situation with climate change but there is no harm in trying just in case, we have to give future generations a clean planet to bring their children into the world and if in costs billions it is a price worth paying, these measures can do no harm and possibly might be doing good, also cities around the world that awake to choking smog every day might just grow a new pair of lungs...worth a gamble in my book.

Yet another case of - why let the facts (and / or journalistic integrity) get in the way of a great headline. They'll not bother reading the article anyway.

I know its been mentioned already, but .............. George clueless Osborne has blamed the none growth in the economy on the Royal wedding and two bank holidays, well its actualy gone up 0.2% since the Tories came to power. What a plonker .............. he raises vat to 20%, stops any pay rises and inflation is running at almost 5% and he wants us to spend more, to stimulate growth in the country .............. is this guy for real, my kids even know that if you have less to spend, you will spend ........... less. It doesn't bode well having this numpty in charge of the countries finances.

You couldn't make it up.

Goerge Osbourne got his stats and facts from the ONS (office for National Satistics)

The Office for National Statistics produces independent information to improve our understanding of the UK's economy and society.

Reliable and impartial statistics are vital for planning the proper allocation of resources, policy-making and decision-making to ensure a fair society.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-14290309

I think the key factors here are "Reliable and impartial", now given the choice who should I listen too?

1. The ONS, an organisation with well educated professionals, a supplier of independant information that is reliable and impartial:yes:

2. A part-time prison officer:nah:
