Hang in there Rachel. I replied to you 9 days ago saying we are in the same position and we have just accepted an offer for our house today. Hopefully everything will go through ok as he is a first time buyer with a mortgage in place so no chain involved. We didn't get exactly what we wanted but not far off. 9 days ago we were wondering if we might have to validate but now things are looking good. You never know someone could knock your door tomorrow will keep fingers crossed for you.

Hang in there  We bought our house in 2007 for £220,000 - a detached/4bed/2bathroom/Leics.

We put it on the market in April 2009 - offers over £199,950 - but only had a couple of viewings and no interest, The house was empty for 6 months, as we'd moved to Plymouth with my husbands job, into rented naval housing. Of course after 6 months of being empty the council want you to start paying council tax again! So then we were paying rent on our navy house, a mortgage and council tax!

We were despairing, then our friends asked if they could rent our house (they owned a 3 bed house next door but it'd become too small for their growing family). So they moved in.

They have since sold their house and are buying ours for £196,000 (we are about to exchange in the next dew days). If we hadn't have rented our house to them they would never have been in a position to buy it, as they had to sell their house first.

We're so grateful to be able to not have the worry of owning a property in the UK and to be able to put our money in an off-shore savings account until the currency rate improves. We will be renting a military house in Australia (husband is joining their navy), so won't want to be buying yet anyway. And also if for any reason in the future we did want to come back to UK, we'll be able to buy where we want to and not be limited to going back to where we lived before.

Really hope you get some good news soon, all the best!
