Are there school fees in Brisbane?

Hi guys,

me, my wife and two young children (two girls age 3 & 5) are planning to move to Brisbane. I'm looking at going on a 457 sponsored Visa.

Does anybody know whether we would have to pay school fees for state school. I was told by someone that on the great state of Queensland there are no such fees unlike NSW.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance

Hi other than the standard costs that everyone pays i am pretty sure you do not pay extra fees on a 457 here in QLD.

As an example the standard fees at the state school where i live is -

- A Voluntary $30 contrbution fee once a year (invoice sent out in early Feb)

- Book lists for the start of every year (varies depending on yr but never cost me more than $180 pr child)

- Uniform (only buy the necassitys from school, cheaper unifprm can be bought at BIG W, Target etc)

Hope this helps

There are no Government implemented fees for schools in Queensland, but budget around $400 a year for state schooling (excluding uniform). There is usually a contribution you are required to make to the school, plus books and then excursions.
