Hi Laura & Matt:

We've just come back from a trip to Scotland & found that our application has been acknowledged at LAST! We started with the Independent Skilled Visa 136 process back in Feb, 07. We have an agent who is very thorough, so we tried to be extremely organised & apart from Meds & Local Police Checks, (HOPEFULLY) covered every imaginable base!! The skilled assessment took about 3 weeks in the mail and around 1 month to assess.

We then sent off the 136 Visa application with a ton of supporting documentation (Over £300 in solicitors' fees. Apparently, if you know a JP, they certify documents for FREE!) So, Dept of Immigration & Citizenship received our application back on June 12, 07, and said we should have a Case Officer within Six (6) Weeks! Ha Haa Haa! We were finally Officially acknowledged & given a Case Number, September 5th, 07.

DIC are saying it could be another 3-months before Case Officer is assigned, with a further 3-months wait on top of that! So think of a number & double it, then start again!!! DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH!

Cheers,

Herbster (With New Scottish Bruin Friend) :v_SPIN:

Thank You!

Hya! :)

Also, that was then - this is NOW! The rules have all changed (Sept 1st) which accounts for things going slower than maybe earlier in the year, resulting in backlogs, due to retraining, & implementing the changes – Have you had your trade/skills, etc., verified, that is the first step? :v_SPIN:

If you go to one of the more popular forums here, you will see many PIO subscribers include all their details, which makes it a great way to track the time scales. However, every application is treated on its own merits, (I'm sure Case Officer's vary, too) so they can only be a guide! Annoyingly, some people seem to get through the process in a few months, others do take up to 18 months, or even LONGER….. So be prepared to be patient, but also be prepared and as thorough as possible so OZ don’t end up sending your app back because you missed/misread something – which you don’t know about till the App is returned in the post one day, (out of the blue) - that must be the Worst!

Good Luck; keep us informed on your progress
