Guest bsbs
I have certified copies of some documents dated 11 Jan 2011. Could I use the to apply for a visa nowadays?
twister292
Certification of a document does not expire in itself. What expires is the validity of the document itself. For most documents like police checks and skills assessments the validity is 12 months. Documents like birth certificates are perpetually valid. twister292
1-could you support your reply with official web links? I have confirmed this from DIAC on the phone. Police checks are valid for 12 months after they are issued. Basically the requirements for police checks are uniform. For example, the 885 visa document checklist mentions "Evidence that all applicants aged 16 years or over have applied for an AFP National Police Check in the past 12 months." which sums it up... The Skills assessment will be valid for a period of time that will be stated on the skills assessment letter itself. 2-what do you think about documents such as payslips? The issue date of the document will obviously be the original date of issue. In general it would be advisable to get the documents certified as close to application date as possible. However, the "validity" of a certification is not an issue. A certification does not expire. The document may expire though. A pay-slip does not expire, because it's a historical record. For example, in my country, the government's foreign affairs office which validates birth certificates etc has made it clear enough that because they are valid until death of the person, they will only validate original birth certificates ones. However, the person is free to get as many certified copies from external authorised sources as required. PS See the attached PDF which was sent by DIAC on 18 MAR to some applicants...it mentions on page 4: Validity of Health and Character clearances Health and character clearances have a limited validity period, in most cases 12 months from their date of issue.
