Guest IlkleyMoorBahtat Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Sorry it's a long one...... Well, it's been a while since I posted so thought I would update. My feet haven't really touched the floor since we got our visa and along with it came the question "how soon can you get here?". So we've had four weeks and although we knew we were probably going I didn't want to sell/give away my whole house until it was 100%, I'm sure most people would be the same. In retrospect it looks like the visa was pretty much a given and maybe having a bit more faith would have bought us more time. Preparing for the removals was far more difficult than I realised.....if you are preparing to go start cleaning now.....it's endless. Although this is our third move in as many years we seem to have a lot of stuff and a ridiculous amount of toys! We shipped 130 boxes and a dining table and chairs. As we will be there 3 months before our belongings we've decided just to buy new(ish) things when we get there so that didn't even include any furniture. We went with Doree Bonner and so far they've been helpful and very professional. It was a huge relief to sell both our cars as they were getting on a bit and we just didn't want to get stuck with them. A notice in the window sold one to a neighbour and the other was sold via ebay which was a first for us but it all went well and we got cash in hand. Came to check in tonight and computer says NO:no: an error which says we aren't cleared for Advanced Australian Processing. A call to the Singapore Airline Helpdesk did not resolve it so now we have to stand in line to check in which we could do without with 2 kids under 4yrs being dragged out of bed in the middle of the night. The boys have both come down with colds which I hope won't make clearing their ears difficult on the plane....unfortunately they're too younger for sudafed. I've come down with something too which is giving me pains in my kidneys, I think the 17 hr days for the last couple of week have not helped my resistance to germs. We have quite a bit of paperwork to finish off as we only moved out of our rental (officially) yesterday. Doing as much online as possible...what did people do before the internet? Have been asked many times if I'm excited and quite frankly it's been hard to be excited with so much to do, even sitting here tonight it's not really sunk in that we're going. Maybe on the way to the airport.....or not, 23+ hrs with two young kids sounds like a form of torture!:arghh: Anyway, we have a lovely appartment in Redcliffe awaiting us with a pool and a sea view, yeah! Well, off to do some last minute shopping tomorrow as the nice people at Singapore Air gave us an extra 5kg each after I grovelled a lot. Well, I guess next time I post we'll be there.....eeekkk Good luck to those on their way and fingers crossed to those waiting for visas Louise x
Guest siamsusie Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Good luck Louise, Those of us that have made it to the other side remember the feeling well! Safe travels and looking forward to reading your reccie report. Susie x

Guest littlesarah Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Good luck - I'm sure you'll get checked in OK. Try not to panic about the check-in thing. I had a problem when I came to check in for my one-way. In my case, DIAC hadn't cleared an old visa (same me, different passport in my maiden name, working hold visa) so the airline couldn't verify that I had the paperwork required to enter Australia. I'm not prone to emotional outbursts, but I could feel tears welling in my eyes, and I really had to struggle to keep my composure. With hindsight, I don't know why I got so upset - was I surprised that DIAC weren't efficient?!! The queues aren't always so bad, in these days on online check-in. Hold onto your positive outloook, and all wil be well in the end. Sarah
Guest juliemtaylor Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Good Luck, it will hit you when you are settled on the plane and then order a singapore sling and relax! Then you will be very excited when you arrive!!! Julie x
David Bottomley Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Morning Louise, just wanted to say good luck and all the best for the future. We flew out with Korean Air with two 7 year olds and the check in/ground staff were fab. They took us out of the queue and ushered us through check in very quickly - I'm sure Singapore Air will not leave you struggling with two tots. Again, best wishes and ENJOY Di x

terry & Melanie Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Good luck guys. I remember the feeling well! It will defo hit you on the plane...it feels like the first time you have got to sit down for longer than 1/2 hour in months! We went with singapore and they were fantastic with the kids. We took allsorts for them to do and play with ( that they didnt know about-suprises) in the hand luggage and the movies on board were a great distraction. Enjoy! Melanie x

warren&liz Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Hi Louise Just wanted to wish you all the best. Everything will be fine. You sound just like me when we were leaving. Nothing worse than people asking if you are excited when you are standing with your marigolds on and a bottle of bleach in one hand. Ethan had to go to the doctors and was put on antibiotics the day we were leaving. I thought I would never see Oz, but once you are on the plane and have taken off things just seem to get put back into perspective. Good luck. Liz x
