Hi

This is my first time on here. I'm a geography teacher in the UK and am thinking about moving to Queensland and wanted to know what the realistic prospects of getting a teaching job are. Can anyone help? Is it easy enough to get supply work?

Everyone's telling me "Yeah go, you'll love it" but I need to know I'm gonna be able to get work.

Thanks very much

I know a few UK, NZ and SA teachers - all have found it fairly difficult to get work in Queensland. Agree that going for rural job might be a good option to start off with .

Yep agree. We've been in Brisbane for almost 5 months now and my wife did not manage to get a teaching job yet....

Hi there, I am a Queenslander but spent nearly three years living in the UK and I am also a teacher. A friend of mine moved over here with his girlfriend at the start of last year and spent twelve months doing supply work or short term contracts and now has a long term contract. There are many things you need to do if you wish to teach in Queensland, and going rural is not the only option. There is a company called tracer which will phone you for day to day supply teaching in many schools, otherwise one you are registered with EQ and also the QCT you can put your name down at individual schools for supply work. If you want further information please message me, as I would be more than happy to help with any questions either for private schools or public.

Not sure if teaching is on the list any longer. I know when we came over, the reason we came on a business owner visa was that you need to be sponsored as a teacher, and Qld was not sponsoring teachers at that time. I was a business owner, wife is a teacher. She gets quite a bit of work through tracer and she has a good reputation with 2-3 schools so gets contracts with them.

I have friends locally who are teachers and they have certainly had no problems finding casual work and short contracts. I am also a teacher, but haven't bothered registering here in Qld, so not ever tried to find work!!!!!

If you are looking for a full time permanent position then I would say your chances are pretty low in the non rural areas..

Love
