Hi what type of Engineer are you? we are moving to Bunbury in August/September, there are 5 of us, myself, husband (main visa) Electrical P.M. and 3 daughters (7, 5, 18mths). Our close friends have been living there for 2.5 years so far and loving it, it all depends like anything on the kind of lifestyle you live. There is alot of scary talk I find about how expensive things are, cars, food etc. We have been told by our friends to ship everything from the UK we have as its decent stuff. Along with our 7 seater People Carrier as second hand cars are very dear and the Ozzies drive their cars into the ground. We are not going expecting anything to be cheaper than the Uk (more expensive in fact) it is more about quality of life, the weather and getting to spend weekends with our girls doing things we could never experience in the UK. On a personal level we are leaving behind a very comfortable position in UK with all the trappings of good jobs but have decided money isn't everything!

Not sure if any help, if you want to know anything else, let me know as I speak with my friend in Bunbury each week

Hi Ahmed,

I have live in Bunbury for over 5yrs now and love it. Ok, being an electrical engineer I would strongly suggest you look on the Wersley website - Wersley are part of BHP Mines, biggest employers of Western Australia. If you work for them locally you could expect a salary of $120 000 pa, however if you are prepared to work up north and live in Bunbury (my husband does this) the company pay for all flights to site and of course you are on a roster. Most live in Bunbury and do the "fly in fly out" because of the salaries - here you can expect to be paid tripple the above mentioned. Now, eating out - a upmarket restaurant will cost per head on average $20 - $35 for main course, $10 - $20 for starters and about the same for deserts. Macdonalds happy meal is $4.60. Shopping for groceries - a family of 4 (2 adults 2 kids) will cost you on average $200 pweek. Utility bills - electric for 3 months for a 4x2 home will be around $200, Gas for 3 months in summer is about $60 / winter if you use heating it will tripple. The only thing I wish i had brought over with me is kitchen white goods as they are expensive here - dishwasher $500 but I found everything else cheaper than the many other places. I am a real estate agent here in Bunbury and if there is any other information or advice you need, please dont hesitate to contact me or call. 0408627852 or 08 97953820(ah)
