brideycollette Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 I was just wondering has anyone set up a buddy system for themselves when they got to oz . Bascially i have one here in the UK incase i have an emergency ie if i get taken into hospital , This person know's where a emergerncy overnight bag is to bring in for me ,with letters and instructions for the care of my children/ pick them up from school , etc., i also wear a locket round my neck with a contact number, my daughter wears one too . I only mention it because years back i had a car accident in a friends car , i had no id on me and my husband was away ,my daughter was at school  I couldn't speak or move ....... so my daughter was in limbo ! I was very lucky her Teacher looked after for me after she searched and found i was in hospital . :wideeyed:too wake up in hosp was so scary and the first words i said were where is my daughter ! Please make sure you have at least a contact number somewhere for the Police etc to contact for the care of your children . Brides xxx
Guest siamsusie Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 This is an excellent thread Brides. It is something people have to bear in mind particularly when they are in a foreign land. Well said Susie x

brideycollette Posted May 14, 2011 Author Posted May 14, 2011 I just think it helps the police etc try to sort things for the children .:embarrassed:Also you don't have to wear the hospital gowns haha . I know it will be hard for people in the beginning finding a buddy , but even if its someone at the school , Just ask them would you be my emergency buddy heres some numbers . :embarrassed:i'm such a soft touch even the dog has an emergency buddy :biglaugh:

eweasel Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 This is an excellent idea - I have had a few sleepless nights think about when (if) we move to Oz we will be on our own as a family without backup and will have a while before we make friends - although having spend time travelling around it is amazing how much more friendly people seem to be over there - we made quite a few friends/contact during our 3 months there at the backend of the year and still keep in touch via FB now (unfortuately none in WA!!!) Leaving our families is going to be a huge wrench for us - but we just feel that WA is somewhere we would at least like to try out for a few year and setting something like this up would defienately make you feel more secure :-D
brideycollette Posted May 15, 2011 Author Posted May 15, 2011 Well i'm happy to be an emergency buddy for people when i get to Perth next March ...depending where we settlle  Brides x
Guest Sandisonsonthemove Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Hi Brides Never heard of this before but it is such a good idea. Hopefully there will be people willing to be buddies when we reach Oz. Donna x
Pingpongpom2 Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Excellent ideas Bridey:notworthy:..not only when moving to a new country, but in general..i have friends at my son's school who i know will always be there if i'm running a little late and stuff, but i think giving them a little more info is a good idea indeed!..he is also well versed in what to do at home, incase anything should happen..they are more able than we think..but def for people making the move to Aus, a buddy is a great idead, while they are finding their feet..really useful thread..should have ability for multiple 'thanks' on some threads!..
