I've got to write my resignation letter this weekend as I have to give a minimum of two months notice and want to be leaving work mid July when my daughter breaks up from school.

It's just brought home how close we are to going.

Hi Andy yes everyone knows I'm leaving. They knew before I took up this current job! I work in the health service and a several 'hats' We were supposed to go a couple of years ago but due to one thing and another we didn't make it out that time. I was lucky enough to get back into my old role last year so my manager was well aware of our plans and still offered me the job - saying that she's milking me for every last drop now but in a nice way!!!

It sunk in with me the day the visa email came! I remember calling my mum and saying ...does this mean we have to go now?

At least you'll have the chance tell your boss / colleagues yourself.

When we were planning our move, we'd been keeping our intentions fairly private just in case things didn't go to plan as well as being able to continue in our jobs (both management roles) without added complications.

I'd made a few useful contacts with the local rag through work so when we put our house on the market the favours were returned and it appeared as the "Home of the Week" in the property section.

So far so good - but unfortunately we'd told the Estate Agents of our plans to move abroad (and thus were not in a chain) so when the feature writer from the paper spoke to them to get some background info and details to go with the photos, that bit of intel was passed on and became the "Leaving Lincolnshire for a New Life in Australia" headline for the whole article!:arghh:

Once the paper came out, the gossip mill went into overdrive and a few fairly awkward meetings soon followed!

Good luck with your move.

I found resigning really tough as I loved the job I was in.

Good luck!

I am in the same boat - waiting for the right moment to put my resignation letter in. I only have to give one months notice which is great.

Some of my trusted colleagues know already and they have warned me that my line manager will be absolutely gutted when I tell her. BUT, on a positive note - I am not leaving to go to a competitor - I am leaving to move to another country.

How I haven't told her yet I don't know - cos I am not great at keeping secrets!!! :chatterbox:

Dito re the job! My manager says is trying to see if remote access working is a possibility - but don't think the nhs will let me submit a travel claim for flights!!!! She keeps threatening to lock me in our office:wideeyed:

I for one, can't wait to leave my job!

I'm not heading to Australia just yet, but i start Uni in September. I'm having to keep it all hush hush though, because my boss is a nutter, and that last month working for him, when he knows I am going to leave, is going to be pure hell! but, all I know is; when i am qualified, and sorting out my new life in Oz, he will still be stuck in that stinking office!!!

Really good luck with the move, I hope it all goes really well! X

Well the deed is done - and I was told it was a beautiful resignation letter :embarrassed:

Now I'm spending tomorrow applying for a job. Saw the perfect one online last night. Have emailed the person concerned to explain my time line as I really didn't want to go through the stress of applying & possible interview if there was no hope. Got a very positive reply;

'We arelooking for the best person for the position, but also want someone as soon as possible. However, if you were successful it would be something that we would consider and discuss with you.'

So fingers crossed
