Guest LouMc Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Hi, Has anyone followed the process through CPA to have their accountancy qualifications assessed? I just have a few questions after reading the website. I'm CIMA qualified and have a degree so I believe I met all the requirements including meeting 9 of the key skills listed by CPA. I believe as I'm a CIMA member, I do not have to provide my degree syllabus but may need to provide my degree results in detail, is this correct? Also, does anyone know whether I would pick the general accounting code or the management accounting one for the visa application? Thanks in advance for any help Louise
Bpremji Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 HI LouMc, Not sure about your question regarding which code to apply for but I do know you will need to take Academic IELTS and get 7's in all four categories.

Thanks in advance for any help Louise Hi I'm CIMA qualified and have recently completed the CPA Skills Assessment. When you initially apply online you have to list your professional and academic qualifications. They then email you with a list of documents they need. As well as being CIMA qualified I have a degree in Economics and they still wanted to see a copy of my degree certificate, transcript of results and syllabus. The transcript of results was easy enough to get from my old Uni (I graduated in 1994). The syllabus was a little more challenging, but they managed to dig it out. I was advised by CPA London office that a copy of the relevant pages in the Uni prospectus at the time I did my degree may suffice. If you look on the CPA website they do say if you can't get a copy of your course syllabus, you can compile one yourself and accompany it with a statutory decleration. Hope this helps.
Guest LouMc Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Thanks for the advice. I'm just waiting for my IELTS results to come through before completing the CPA skills assessment. I might get in touch with my university now to see if it's possible to have the syllabus and results. What code did you use on the application? Good luck with the rest of your process

As a CIMA member you can simply apply for membership of CPA under the Mutual Recognition Agreement which was established a couple of years ago. You simply fill in the application form, get a letter of good standing from CIMA Contact and pay the fee. You then fill in an extra form and the skills assessment is done free as part of your application for membership. You do have to pay membership for both each year but I felt it was worth it to have an Oz recognised qualification until CIMA can get better established. When I did it twelve months ago it took 3 or 4 weeks and the CPA office in London are very helpful when it comes to sending documents on your behalf etc. If you go to the CIMA website and put CPA MRA in the search box it comes up in the results. If you want any help with it feel free to PM me. Hope this helps Si

Thanks in advance for any help Louise Hi Louise, with regards to your question on which ANZSCO code to choose, take a look at the following web page on the ICAA website. http://www.charteredaccountants.com.au/The-Institute/Migration-assessment/Recognised-accounting-qualifications.aspx If you look at the table you'll see that there are slightly different core areas you had to cover in your studies for each ANZSCO code. With a CIMA qualification it's likely you will qualify for most of the codes, but some applicants only have a bachelors degree so their core modules may only fit one code. As ICAA and CPAA perform skills assessments for the same ANZSCO codes, I would think CPAA will have similar criteria for assessment. Hope that helps.
