Hi there,

I am looking to move to brisbane for a year. I am a plaster by trade and although my job appears on the list, whilest searching for jobs and possible sponsership possiblities I have found it hard to find any jobs. I have friends living in Australia that I have made whilest travelling but I have a girlfriend that has moved back to Brisbane to work so that we can save for a house possibly back in Devon. I was hoping that someone may of had a similar experience and might be able to help or give some advice in to sites that they found helpful or even ( if I'm very lucky ) someone that may be able to help?

Many thanks Kev

Hi Kev

Plasterinmg here isnt quite the same as in the UK, here its more dry lining than wet plastering.

Have you had a look around on seek.com and career one?

Hi cal

I have just started to set up my seek.com account. I did have a quick look at jobs on there and there doesn't seem to be anything around? I'll have a look at career one in a minute. Are you a plasterer?

LOL, no i'm not but i have met a few guys who are and they have said its very different to what theyre used to. The norm seems to be boards up, tape on and paint! lol

Another job site to try is alljobs.com

Worth a go mate!

Well that sounds easier to be honest. I'll have a look at the sites you've suggested.

Thanks for your help

Do you know if there are any sites set up to help people in my position to get any job? I only ask cos you see a lot of Australians doing any old jobs in England or is that just because its easier for them to get in here? As you can tell I'm pretty new to all this!

The best way to secure employment for tradesmen seems to be approaching companys in person and selling yourself, if you cant wait until you get here then ring around as many you can to put feelers out. The white Pages on line may help you find companys who you think could have something in your line of work.

Im not aware of any sites like you mention where they are job ad's, other than maybe Gumtree Brisbane?????????

I'm sure I've read a similar thread on here recently where someone mentioned that rendering in Aus is more like plastering in the UK. Maybe try searching for that instead?

Cheers for that mate I'll have a look,

A lot of people have said that it's better to try and get work face to face. Would it be a better idea to get a holiday visa and then apply for a work visa once I'm over there if I can find sponsorship?
