Guest macg Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Hi there We are new to this forum today, so thanks for any help given, it will be most appreciated! We were hoping for some adivce on the IELTS Test scoring proceedure. We have been advised that my husband requires a IELTS score of 8 to get the maximum points for a 175 visa he is over 40. Does this mean that he must achive a score of 8 in each of the sections, (Listening, Writing, Speaking, Reading) ? He has taken the test and has an overall score of 8.5, however has a score of 7.5 in one of the sections. Can anyone comment on this, it's very confusing to say the least! Thanks for any help offered.
Pumpkin Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 He is going to need it in all four sections individually.
Guest macg Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Thanks for the reply, I was half expecting that answer but living in hope.....
Guest katie0499 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 You can ask for a remark if the section with 7.5 is either Writing or Speaking
Guest macg Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Thanks for the reply, the 7.5 was in writing, so will get that part re-marked as suggested, I have just contacted IELTS and they say it will take about 6 weeks. Cheers for that.
Guest katie0499 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Goodluck! having it remarked as 8 won't be a problem I think since it's a .5 difference. If only I have known this earlier, I could have requested for a remark
Guest macg Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Submitting it tomorrow, hope all goes will for your visa. Cheers :em4500:

Pumpkin Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 why so? Because there are no extra points for getting 8 in all bands at the moment, I assumed you were applying after July 1st. If you are applying now then 7 in every band will give you an extra ten points.
coynie Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 had exactly the same problem with my ielts results and had to retake it all much to my dismay and wallet. hope you can get it re marked and passed, good luck
Guest macg Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Hi yes, we will be applying after the 1st of July as this give us more visa options, thank for your concerns though.
