Hi,

I wonder if anyone who has recently had their visa granted can answer this question for me please?

I understand that medicals are valid for 12 months, is this from the date of medicals or date medicals are finalised? I.e are you given an entry date 12 months from date of medicals or 12 months from date medicals finalised.

The reason I am asking is we are hoping to go to Oz next June 2012(round about 15th - (after my daughters exams are finished) for good. We are unable to go even for a reccie before this. So I am trying to establish earliest I can do my medicals. I am going to get police checks the middle of June on express service.

Appreciate any guidance ( we have co and have been asked to get medicals done)

I don't think there's much time difference between the 2. We chose to have our medicals submitted online, so all was done the day we had the medical and they submitted all info the same day. We had our visa granted on 2/7/10 and our latest entry date was 11/6/11, which is around the time a year earlier when we had our medical done.

If I were you I'd play it safe though, we purposely wanted to arrive at least 1 month before the date we had to be validated (ended up being 2 months before), simply to make sure we could cope with any unforseen circumstances, for example if one of you loses their passport, it might take some weeks to get a new one and get another visa in there. You really don't want to miss your chance because of some bad luck and you couldn't sort it in time!

Your validation period normally is date 12 months from the date of your medicals and/or the police check which ever is the earliest. I would leave medicals until asked for, if you cut the timing to fine you could lose out if for some reason you cannot make the flight. Just imagine if you have a month left to validate and a volcano erupts or there is strike action stopping you from flying, it could cause all sorts of problems.
