ErynnRyan Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Hi everyone Just wondering if someone could tell me what the chances are on finding a sponsor for the 457 visa? Myself, partner and daughter are in Ireland at the moment but would love to move to Australia. My partner is a bricklayer by trade, and after speaking to an Immigration specialist they have told us our best options are either a General skilled Migration Visa or a 457 Employer Sponsered Visa. We would rather the 457 visa as our daughter starts High School in 2 years and as the General Skilled can take 12 + months I would like to have her settled and have friends before she goes to the `big school` lol. The Immigration place we spoke to told us to call up different companies and see if they would be willing to sponsor, but would these companies really sponsor someone they have never met?? Does ANYBODY know of anybody that does/would offer sponsorship? We would prefer to live in the Melbourne area as its a place we have both been to before, but tbh will go anywhere that sponsorship is available!! Any advice given is greatly appreciated. Thanks Erynn
janinewhiteley Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 hi, We were in the same situation but we didnt have the option of GSM. so 457 was the route for us. After asking on several sights and not getting anywhere , we decided to take the plunge and visit Melbourne and speak to employers directly. They know you mean business then. SPEAKING TO SOMEONE F2F IS THE BEST WAY. they like to know what you can do, and be prepared to show them what you can do. We used an employment agent = actnowrecruitment.com.au they were really good , they spoke to some employers and then arranged interviews for us. We are now waiting for our 457 visa(came back with job offer in april) We are also moving to melbourne region and there are loads of building works going on in regional vic. good luck
ErynnRyan Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 Thanks for the reply, we have actually been talking about going over to seek out different employers, infact we were thinking of Ryan going out on a 1 year working visa and seeing what he could find (though dont think Id like him going away for possibly that long lol), did you just go out for a holiday? Did u contact the recruitment agency before u left for Oz or whilst you were there? Lol sorry for bombarding you with questions, just great hearing from somebody that was in same boat as us

Lol sorry for bombarding you with questions, just great hearing from somebody that was in same boat as us My OH is 45 , so we couldnt go on WHV. so we did go over on a holiday visa. We left kids here with grandparents (to save on cost) and we got cheap flights and car hire. The bad side to doing that is , in UK we are used to hotels on every corner. In regional Vic we found this very difficult as when we did find motels , they were full with tradies:wacko: We had sent the agent my OH resume first and then he spoke to us in UK first . then when we gave him dates to arrive he started working on the companies we had seen vacancies for in last few weeks. It is a know fact you are not suppose to work on A holiday visa. However you can look for work but not earn ny money . hope this helps. Please keep asking questions as you think we dont mind J&D:wink:
lynne1266 Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Hi, I went on to www.careerone.co.au and searched for job on there then looked up the company on the net using their phone number and just emailed every single one. It paid off....we had quite a few replies and a few telephone interviews and also a few job offers but we wanted to pay as little as possible so we chose the company that would cost us less !! Good luck with the search Lynne x
ErynnRyan Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 I had a look on the website you recommended..... its under construction lol typical!!!! Going to sit up a bit later tonight and give them a phone, yes I know you cant work on the holiday visa which is why we were thinking of Ryan going over on the WHV as we didnt think going over on holiday would be long enough to find an employer. Luckily for us accomodation wouldnt be a problem as I have a few family members who live in Melbourne Victoria who we could stay with I suppose as a last resort we could ask if if 1 of them could sponsor us, but tbh I would prefer if we got over ourselves. Do you mind me asking what trade it is your OH has? Is he a bricklayer like Ryan? I know it would be different for everyone who is looking for a sponsor, but how long were you in Australia before you found one? Thanks again for your input  Erynn
ErynnRyan Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 Thanks Lynne, will have a look on that site also Erynn

Guest Quinn Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Hi Just wanted to let you know what we did. Also Irish, OH is in construction with a speciality so we checked The Australian Newspaper website each week. He found a job he was interested in and applied. They were interested, offered him a job and took care of all the paperwork for 457. We arrived in Oz on Feb 6. The company used an agent to process our application but all we had to do was fill in some forms. It's worth keeping an eye on the newspapers and if you want to go to Melbourne, check out their local paper. Hope all goes well!!
ErynnRyan Posted May 13, 2011 Author Posted May 13, 2011 Thanks for that, will have a look today. Woke up yesterday feeling deflated about finding a sponsor, and woke up this morning with completely different attitude Thank you so much for everyones advice
