Guest prettyperth Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Hi all, We're still here in the UK and we've just had a booklet arrive from ANZ about setting up a bank account. So just wanting to know people's thoughts on this bank? Any good or bad experiences had? We are (hopefully) headed to WA, so would need a bank that has numerous branches, ATM's and general good banking practice. I had a look on WESPAC website as I believe they are one of the "big ones" but it seems like you only have 90 days from setting up the bank account here in the UK, to activating it in Oz. Does that sound right? I couldn't see anything like this in the ANZ paperwork that we received. We don't have an exact date as yet, when we will be arriving in WA, so would need to be careful of any time restrictions. I believe that NAB is another good bank? Any advice welcome :wubclub: Thanks folks. P
ghost Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 We are looking at NAB, as it seems they have no charges similar to the uk. See you in Perth
kernow43 Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 ANZ AAA after being here over 40 years I judge them the best & friendliest
calNgary Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 We have been with the ANZ for 5 years (ish), we set the account up prior to moving and that was simple and staright forwards to do. I have used 3 or 4 different branches in and around my area and have found the staff friendly and efficent, we have never paid more than $5 pr month in fees andwhen we first arrived they let me withdraw decent amounts of cash as and when needed without ordering it,, so really i cant fault them. Cal x
Parley Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 But why pay $5 in fees when you don't have to. Any of the big 4 banks will be fine. Most of the bank require you to deposit $2000 per month to avoid fees. NAB don't require any conditions and are fee free on the main account.

Well worth noting that the main account is free!! Thanks for your reply. Px

Guest The Pom Queen Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 NAB is great in that they don't charge you any monthly bank fees like the other banks.
northernbird Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 We have been with ANZ for 6 years, we have had no problems at all. Look carefully at NAB as over the past 12 months they have had no end of technical issues here in Australia with people not getting paid, not having access to their money and pretty poor customer service reported in the press.

I agree - been here 6 months and NAB has been in the news at least three times with technical problems meaning all services shut down and ppl couldnt use their cards to pat or get money out! We use ANZ but need to be mindful of where you are going to live - we are in rural victoria and ANZ have fewist of ATM or branches. That aside we have not had any problems with ANZ so are staying put - 5 dollars a month is not an issue fir good customer service and accessibility.
moirclan Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 the only bank i would never use again would be the national , years ago about 12 people i knew [ including myself moved to the national with accounts and mortgages etc , with in 18 months we ALL had moved to different banks and left the national
popstar999 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Just another quick question for the ANZ customers: I've had a look online, and for the ANZ Access Advantage account that charges $5 per month, is there a minimum balance that has to be in that account each month? Or does a minimum amount have to be deposited every month? It doesn't say. However, for the ANZ Online Saver account, it states that there is no minimum balance required. As we don't have a fixed date for our arrival, I'm guessing we should open something like the Online Saver for now? Would that be correct?? We just want to open an account for the time being A) so that we can start sending over a few bits and bobs, and B) so that it's one LESS thing to do later Thanks in advance.....Regards, Catherine
Guest alison and Simon Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 We opened both accounts before we left but only activated them the day we arrived. I didnt put money in them for a few days though so cant help you with that one - if you email the office in london, i found them very helpful and you pop along woth your passport and details and boarding pass etc.

There is no minimum deposit. The online saver i put money in each month from the advantage account. But I think you need an advantage account to use the online saver as to withdraw money I transfer it to my advantage account, the online saver is a pure online account and I do not think you can access it through the branches.
