SHANO7 Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Hello The budget doesnt seem to mention how many visa places will be available for the year 2011/2012. Has anybody come across this figure yet if so let us know. Thanks Shane
Guest Jamie Smith Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 I think there's a total increase of 12,000, being a few thousand refugees, sigh, and perhaps 6000 RSMS (or say 4000 new applications as the 6000 includes family, and of the 4000 about half will be existing 457 moving over, so really just 2000 new RSMS incl family or perhaps 1200 jobs filled. Peanuts. Pathetic.
SHANO7 Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 So they havent reduced the figures frmo last year as feared ?
Guest Jamie Smith Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 No, there is growing evidence of a rapidly increasing skills shortage that will last for years, even with retraining Aussies and so forth migration will need to be no less than 120.000 each year until 2025, to stop the workforce from shrinking from 2025 onwards. And that doesn't account for the huge job numbers being forecast from new mines announced after that forecast was made (+400,000 jobs).
cat4er Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 So are there any official numbers for GSM intake for 2011-12?

Thanks Jamie In view of this perhaps this is why DIAc quote that Cat 4 might be processed in the year 2011/2012 due to less applicants feeling safe enough to apply. Also the strenght of the Dollar and high house prices in Australia are making prospective migrants think again. This all points towards those in the system being processed sooner rather than later.
xenos1987 Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Permanent migration will increase "modestly" to 185,000, up from about 180,00, with 125,850 allocated as skilled places. About 16,000 of those will be allocated to the regional sponsored migration scheme. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/in-depth/more-skilled-migrants-for-miners-in-budget/story-e6freb5u-1226053508856 http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/humanitarian-intake-to-rise/story-fn8gf1nz-1226053609925
armandra Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Here are the stats: Source: http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/_pdf/migplan11-12.pdf P.S: An increase of 10000 places for independent migrations is good news for those already applied 175!! armandra!
Alan Collett Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/_pdf/migplan11-12.pdf 2011/12 Migration Program numbers ... Best regards.
Alan Collett Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Business skills DOWN 600 ... what the ...? Best regards.
Guest RobynD Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Alan, I never realised how few visas are allocated to Skilled - Sponsored Australian applicants in comparison with Skilled - Independent. That doesn't bode well for S176 applicants, especially those in category 4 like myself, does it?
Alan Collett Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 It depends on how many family sponsored 176 applications are in the pipeline ... Best regards.
Guest RobynD Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I wonder if anyone knows how many of the approx 120 000 outstanding GSM visa's are for family sponsored? Mind you, once the new points test is introduced, presumably there wont be any new applicants under GSM family sponsored, so the allocated spaces will go to those in the pipeline only?

Are u sure there will be no family sponsored after the new points test is allotted. Can you substantiate this with some evidence.
Alan Collett Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 There are no points for family sponsorship under the proposed new points test. Best regards.
Guest RobynD Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 http://www.acacia-au.com/new_points_test_announced.php Family Sponsorship Under the current system, the pass mark for family sponsored applicants is 100 versus 120 for independent applicants. In addition, 25 point are available if sponsored by a relative living in a designated area - in this case, it is possible to apply for a Skilled - Regional Sponsored visa. Changes will be introduced meaning that it will no longer be possible to apply for a Skilled - Sponsored visa through family sponsorship from 1 July 2011. In addition, only 10 points will be available if sponsored by a relative living in a designated area when applying for a Skilled - Regional Sponsored visa. Losers Family sponsored applicants, particularly if the relative does not live in a designated area.
rahulpatel1969 Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 There are no points for family sponsorship under the proposed new points test. Best regards. Alan Meaning there are no preference for family sponsorship. Does that mean only those who are in the pipe line will be prorcessed. Regards Rahul
Guest RobynD Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 There never has been a preference for Skilled Family sponsored, it was simply a way of getting the extra points needed to meet the general requirements for skilled migration. I don't think it is possible to know (at this stage) what this means for those in the pipeline...

Guest tandcmum Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 as a nurse potentially moving to townsville would i be better asking for a RSMS visa over a ENS 121, is it likel to be processed quicker with the push towards regional areas
Alan Collett Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 as a nurse potentially moving to townsville would i be better asking for a RSMS visa over a ENS 121, is it likel to be processed quicker with the push towards regional areas If time is of the essence, ensure a migration agent is acting in respect of the nomination and visa applications, and prepares a Decision Ready Checklist alongside the lodged paperwork. We are seeing such applications (ENS) through to grant in less than a fortnight (that's for both stages). Best regards.
SHANO7 Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 Hi Alan Could you shed any light on my following query please? My wife is currently in Cat 4 as a Hairdresser. She lodged in Nov 2009 as a skilled independant on a 175. We then obtained SS from WA in Mar 10 and switched to the 176. Since the trade was treated with contempt effectively both the 175 or 176 would be in cat with no preference being given to the SS recieved status. In view of the figures released and Skilled independant having almost 20,000 more places than sponsored how would the visa be looked at if ever alloactde a C/o would it be treated as a 175 as this was lodged first and have a higher chance of being allocated or as a 176 that has a lower number of proposed grants ? Thanks Shane
Alan Collett Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Hello Shane. This is akin to a strategy question for which our clients pay us a fee ... Best regards.
