Victoria or Queensland????

We are moving 18th October with two hairy dogs and two cats. We lived in Melbourne for nearly 2 years about 5 years ago so always thought that's where we would return too.

Now friends of ours are moving to Brisbane and I'm beginning to wonder if we should just try there instead?

The heat for the dogs is putting me off but then Melbourne gets hot too. We would get a nicer house in Queensland (looking at runaway bay) but then a longer commute etc... I'm not really concerned about finding work, think we should be okay in both states.

I know in the grand scheme of things it's a very nice decision to have to make. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts?

It is your decision, the difference is we have dry heat here when it gets hot whereas its humid in Queensland.

Also the ticks put me off with the animals. I know they are around but I have to say in all the years I have lived in Melbourne none of my animals have ever had one.

Its cool this morning and raining and winter and I love it so Queensland is not for me

Hi Petals,

I was just wondering...we are hopefully moving to Melbourne at the end of August..just how hot does it get during the summer? We have family in Perth I'm hoping it doesn't get as hot as there for as long

The last summer was very mild just how I like it in the mid twenties most of the time and occasional over thirty. However other summers sometimes we get forty degree days but the good thing in Melbourne is we always get a cool change one or two days later. We do not get prolonged hot spells like Perth. Adelaide does get hot spells longer than ours in Melbourne but not as long as Perths.

It gets cold in winter and its eight degrees outside at the moment. We have central heating so does not bother us. We do get the occasional frost and after the frost we usually have a lovely sunny day in winter. I never wear an overcoat. I usually wear a Jacket.

Our houses do not have double glazing and a lot of the older ones are not terribly well insulated so can get hot in summer and cold in winter. Double storey houses are hotter than single storey homes. We have refrigerated air conditioning for the hot days in the summer but this last summer hardly used it.

Rentals are the ones to watch for climate control as a lot do not have it.

I do not like humidity and we do not get a lot of it here. Mostly dry heat.

Thanks Petals, we have been planning on going back to Melbourne since 2006 so I don't know why we're suddenly considering Brisbane! The flights are booked for us and the animals to Melbourne too :)

Just wanted to have a think about all our options, they are nice decisions to make. I'm pretty sure Melbourne is where we'll end up, there just seems to be a lot more rental properties that accept pets around Brisbane, but my OH loves a challenge!

In Brisbane you will have a lot of warm sunny 20+ dry heat days...probably more than Melbourne...you just get most of them in spring, autumn and winter.

They are both lovely cities- it is a good choice to have to make. I would say Brissie is more 'outdoorsy' than Melbourne and a fair bit smaller. Both are within reach of some fantastic areas too. A hard decison.

Only in the winter, three months of the year though, what about the other nine  Must tell my friend who lives there, she is desperate to move back to Melbourne after thirteen years.
