Guest plumbobs Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Hi Mick, Good to hear you have secured employment before you come over, you will need to take all your plumbing certificates into the Plumbers Licencing Board offices in osborne park, you will need a australian address so they can mail it to you, you will need passport photos too, cost is around $120 for 3 years i think, they will only issue you with a tradespersons licence which means you can only work for a plumbing contractor you cannot do any sort of plumbing work on your own, and they normally stipulate that you do the plumbing migrant course at challenger tafe in fremantle within 6 months or they can revoke your licence. the course cost $600 + cost of books, takes 1 week, although quite informative. If you have your gas certificates they wont be recognised in WA, you have to enrol at tafe for a 3 1/2 week f/t course it cost around $1000 but they have a pass mark of 65% so that more people can pass the course. after that you have to take a senior first aid course thats another $250 + books for both courses. then energy safety will want some more money for your gas licence. Another thing you'll need is either a blue or white card that allows you to work on building sites, a must over here. This can be done online and costs around $100. WA runs on licences, the more you have the better off you are. Where are going to work in the mines and who for? hope this helps Pete
Guest vin10 Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Pete, thanks for the info and your time.Im heading to Newman i think not sure of the exact details til i arrive and get my white/blue card sorted. Which card should i get, white blue or both. One last thing will i need an ABN im unsure what it even is.:hug::hug:
Guest MontyClaude Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Hi Vin, good luck, we're moving from Ireland too! An ABN is an Australian Business Number, I thought you only needed this if you were working for yourself and as per the above post can you for the first 6 months on your licence? Maybe you need a TFN - a tax file number, same as your pps here. Have a look at www.ato.gov.au you can apply for your TFN here.
Guest vin10 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Well Monty, Ill be getting a tfn when i get to oz,you cant apply for it til your in the country. What area you heading for and where in kildare you from???
Guest MontyClaude Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Ah sorry, I've had mine ages and couldn't remember if I got it over there or did it before I went. I live just outside Naas, how about you? At the moment it's a toss up between Melbourne and Brisbane but I think Melbourne is winning Not long till you're off, bet you're dying to get going.
Guest vin10 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Im not far from you,im in Athy.Cant wait to get out there were flying out this day next week.
